Yes I'm disappointed also with my nearest RSPB reserve Coquet Island in Northumberland not reporting any news on their blogs page since the middle of 2012 on these Community pages and they said at the time they where going send the latest news and reports from that reserve on Facebook only, which has been a major disappointment to myself.
Regards,
Ian.
That's a shame, there's no reason why they cant do both, its only copy and paste. Maybe even theyve realised that there's a wider audience/usage on facebook. Might not be what people want to hear but the reality is its got a massive base of users. Sad but true.
The rspb aren't particularly sanctioning anything to be honest. You don't need anybodys permission to do a Facebook page. If u notice, the page isn't titled anything to do with the rspb. Its just for otmoor and farmoor pics and chat.
It never mentions anywhere that its created or run by the rspb.
Ok, cheers.
Social media has many guises and is constantly changing and improving. I think it safe to say that some folk like Facebook, others like to 'tweet' and other folk like to use sites such as this one. All are valid, as are the reasons folk use them or not use them as the case may be.
Just thought I'd mention that if you want to stay up to date with current bird and wildlife news from Otmoor, as well as visiting the RSPB Otmoor blog it's well worth checking out the Oxon Bird Log oxonbirding.blogspot.co.uk and also Otmoor Birding otmoorbirding.blogspot.co.uk both are really good, with lots of photos and regular updates.
RSBP has a Facebook page: RSPB Love Nature with over 66,000 followers. See the RSPB homepage for details.
There is the problem in a sentence though, 66000 users is way to many, about 66 times to many for a facebook page to work. On facebook, bigger isnt better. By the time you have commented or posted a picture on a page with so many users, its rocketed off the bottom of the page without anybody seeing whats been posted, by other posts. Thats why a more targeted page was needed.
All valid points. When i wanted to volunteer i struggled to find where to do it. Maybe one way to help is to put a link on the facebook page back to the RSPB community.
