Hide Information, (Rumours?)

Whilst at the reserve today I discussed with centre staff the current Hides situation.

First off,  I was not aware of the actual management structure at the reserve which does significantly effect the adding of hides to the reserve facilities.

Although the RSPB are on the front line answering our, and the general visitor's questions, they are only resposable for the actual Visitor Centre and the immediate area around this. The actual reserve, (everything after you walk up the incline to the reedbeds), is still the responsibility of the CCW.

CCW have promised the RSPB that they will have at least one hide in place at the Lagoons end of the site by the end of march this year. This is likely to be at  the east end of the lagoons near the woodland copse, at the end of R9 on the map.

Another hide is planned overlooking the foreshore, (also possibly with views over the reedbeds), probably at the south eastern end of R7. This will be completed ASAP.

Also planned is an observation Tower,  (an un-roofed platform to start with), at the centre of the reserve between R6 & R7 where the path from the visitor centre turns West, (right), towards the floating walkway, (where the old path between the reedbeds is now gated and off limits).

There are also plans for conversion of two  of the platforms at the Goldcliff saline scrapes, one of these may also  be ready prior to this years breeding season.

All the above information is off the record and of course in the control of CCW but hopefully will be forthcoming soon
