Bearded Tits at Newport Wetlands 17/11/2021

Had a pleasant walk around the wetlands this morning. Weather was quite cool but there wasn't too much wind and visibility was good.

At the screen looking across the water towards the wobbly bridge my wife spotted a Snipe.

She heard Bearded Reedlings after walking through the wood and returning towards the visitor centre opposite the field where there used to Little Owls. She is very good at hearing their contact calls and that is usually what alerts us to their presence. It takes a bit of luck and patience to get a sighting. Today we were luck as a pair were perched nicely in the reeds. Usually they call to each other then fly off and all you see is them flying low across the reed bed. I only photographed the male.

Also saw a Stonechat near the visitor centre.

Thoroughly enjoyable morning.
