I went down to Llanelli WWT on Tuesday. Had a cracking day. Took some stonking pics. ;o)
We (I took my mam) were in the British Steel Hide, and got talking to a couple of people in there. Before I knew it, I had got embroilled in a good natured East v West battle.
I was extolling the virtues of Newport Wetlands, and they were claiming that there was far more to see at Llanelli .. I pointed out, well yes, there would be more at Newport if they had semi captive birds wandering around ... and then we had Starling Trumps ... I said, there were about 30,000 at Newport ... apparently there are about 50,000 at Abersystwyth!
I had to finally settle the argument on neutraliity, being a Mid Glamorgan boy, and being central to both places .. I pointed out Pontypridd RFC was the best rugby team .. there was no arguing with that! ;o)

As an addendum to this ... Autumnwatch have retweeted a tweet from the Welsh Wildlife Trust (or whatever it is called), saying there in fact 15,000 starlings at Abersytwyth at the moment! I may have to go back down with a print out next week! ;o)

Strangely enough, I was down there at the start of the week - and got some lovely shots myself. Have to say where they obviously have the advantage is they have about 5/6 hides to our ...none. Hope this will be recitifed soon. it was said recently at least one maybe more could be erected by February. Fingers crossed!
I'm appreciating the temperature and light in South-East Wales after a chilly weekend in the North-East of England. But at least I could watch the birds on Marsden Rock from the safety of the pub :)
