We had our usual pleasant 2 hour Saturday Morning walk around the reserve, deciding to head towards the power station between the trees. Here there is very little breeze which has been a disappointing aspect of most recent walks. Near the end of one set of bushes we heard the unmistakable calls of a youngster so we stood still and waited hoping to get a glimpse. It obviously heard us and came out to see what was going on. It hopped straight to me and climbed up my boot laces and then slipped off my boot.
It stood by my boot for a few seconds before returning to the long grass.
We walked on and saw an adult nearby.
A few other young birds around the reserve and a weasel crossing the path in front of us.
A nice encounter..
What a fantastic experience!
Lucky you for such a close-up view ... great pic!

Looks like Lesser Whitethroat to me (no rufous/brown tones). Very cute :)

Thanks for the replies. It was definitely the highlight of the walk. Thanks also aiki for the ID. The female that we saw close by did look quite one toned on the back.
Great spot Colin - thought the same as Aiki when I saw that lovely neat dark grey cap and white chest. Thanks for sharing it.
