Hi all, now I am a nature lover. but absolutely no expert, normally I would just take an animal to the RSPCA or Battersea (dependent on species). I found what looks like a juvenile sparrow at my front door this afternoon, it was chirping away but is struggling to fly...other than that it seems well, full of beans hopping around etc. Anyway, it can't fly so my thoughts ran wild...what if a predator, cat/fox gets at it? I couldn't deal with that. I now have it happily sitting in a large square bucket full of strips of newspaper, some water and ground organic sunflower seeds. I am hoping it just needs time to get it's strength up and will soon be able to fly off...it's currently being housed in the large bucket on my small patio which is secure and above ground so no other animals can get at it. My question is, what do I do? have I done the right thing?...should I do anything else? Your suggestions will be gratefully received, thank you.

    Hi SB, have just found this post & am concerned that no-one has replied!  Hope your little bird is still OK today &, as I'm no expert, I would suggest that you re- post your question in the 'Ask an expert' forum in the wider Community, am sure you will receive advice as there are plenty of knowledgeable peoples out there!

    Hi Wendy,

    thanks so much for your email. All is very well with 'birdy', it's actually a juvenile robin and mum has found it! I think the tree it fell out of is just outside my house. I have released it out of the bucket and it's living in my bay tree, it's mum is quite happy coming in to feed it on a regular basis and it was fine overnight as my patio area is above ground and very private.

    My cats aren't too happy about not being able to go out there but I'm sure it won't be long before the baby finds it's wings and makes it's own way in the world.

    So pleased to hear your good news report & wonderful to have a baby Robin ... our resident expert on here 'Monkeycheese' reliably informs us that they are unable to fly for about a couple of days after jumping from the nest.  Well done for protecting it until you were sure of it's origins!
