As everybody knows that has been trying to photograph the elusive Goldeneye in our wetlands it is very camera shy and the policy of keeping a fringe of reeds on every lagoon means that one can't get an unobstructed view even from the short dog leg by the power station.. I was telling a bloke in the hide in Goldcliff about this and he told me that there were 'about 30 'on an island at the mouth of the river in Ogmore, 35 miles down the M4, so last week I took a couple of trips down there. The two videos that I've posted were taken on Tuesday and Wednesday. As you will see on the Wednesday I tried the other side of the river - Merthyr Mawr - to try to get closer shots from that bank. When I was on that side there was no sign of the Goldeneye but when I returned to my original location they were there again!
Nice pictures and video John, an abundance of gregarious Goldeneye.
Cheers David!
Lovely sequence of video and photos John. I haven't been to Merthyr Mawr since I was a kid!

Thanks Ant - lovely area - I've got a feeling it will explode into life as the Spring rolls on but the river is always lively and as you will know Ogmore and the beach are just over the road.
