Decided to try Parc Slip and Kenfig Pool, Bridgend yesterday. Not alot at Parc Slip, just about a dozen teal and 2 little grebe from the hide by the main pool. They seem to be doing alot of work to improve the place though. Only thing seen from scrape hide was a sparrowhawk passing. Went from there to Kenfig pool and as well as cormorant and various gulls this beauty appeared in front of the hide going between reed beds.
What a great sighting. Have never seen one so far out into the water, strange he hadn't flown across. You must be well pleased.
Yes was well chuffed as he was only visible for about 30 seconds.
Brilliant photo! The definitive 'in the right place at the right time shot - but of course that only happens if you put in a lot of field work.
Thanks John.
Great sighting!!
The staff at Kenfig have maintained an excellent balance, between the needs of the wildlife and the needs of the visiting humans. The "rides" cut into the reed beds radiating from the viewing points means that this type of sighting is more common that other sites
