First few days at Mersehead

Well, it's my first time at Mersehead and my first time volunteering as a residential volunteer with the RSPB and I'm loving it.  Within half an hour of arriving on Saturday I'd seen Yellowhammer, Greenfinch, Pheasant, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Heron, Tree Sparrow and...... a male Sparrowhawk. This was all from the window of the visitor centre. Fantastic.

And it has only continued to get better - Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Chiffchaff, Swallow, Sand Martin, Mute Swan and Whitethroat  to name just a few of the birds. The other residential volunteers at the moment are moth experts and I'm really enjoying getting to see some of the moths that are around here - 6 Spot Burnet, Elephant Hawkmoth and Garden Tigermoth, again to name but a few of the very many.

Today is my  first day as a volunteer and I'm going through my induction section and will tomorrow will be manning the visitor centre.  I look forward to seeing you soon.
