Dunedin male:
Rach : It was White AW at Caerlaverock and Blue AW at Rutland. Dont get me started on the ringing numbering conventions. It is a total mess.

It changes this year. All UK birds are to be blue I think and with three letters.

[/quote]Haha! We shall still have to remember the old ones for some time though!
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
The male has tried again at Kalakotkas, to no avail. Maybe he has forgotten the obligatory pre-nuptial fish!! She is definitely not impressed with him.
Rachel K said:How come the 'regular' male (as they refer to him) is AW, when there was another AW at Rutland?
Not to mention 03 (97) "has" 03 white ring on his left leg except that he hasn't as he has lost it and his daughter Nora has a white 03 ring on her right leg.
For 03 (97) see here and Nora see here and here
Please!!
Do hope you're right about a new system this year!
Rachel K said:So the only nest where things look promising is Nest 3 then. Is 'Metal Ring' one of the males on nest 1 then, or has he moved on? I'm sure I read that he had paired up with the female whose eggs he kicked out of the nest last year. Maybe she had a deja-vue moment and decided not to hang around!
Red 6A did noot turn up last year (2011) I believe and Green DX paired up with Yellow OU at Nest 1 before eviction of the pair by Metal Ring. He produced three eggs with an unringed female at this nest but she abandoned them the day they were due to hatch. Green DX was seen later in 2011 at a back up nest (Not sure if this is Nest 2 or 3) as Aberfoyle built new nests a couple of winters back.
Green DX has now been seen on Camera 1 this year 2012 along with brief sitings of Metal ring and Red 6A.
Sounds like a soap opera but trust you can make head and tail of it - and hopefully we should see Nest 1 occupied.
If anyone can assist with any other information I would be pleased to hear and thank You. It is confusing when they discuss Camera 1 then Nest Site 1 - Are these the same.

Keith, I am surprised by all of this and the only way to find out is for someone to visit Aberfoyle :)
Thankyou Keith.
I'm sure there was talk of Metal Ring at the very beginning of the season. However given his record, it's probably best if he's moved on! Thanks for putting me right over the year that the unfortunate eggs were kicked out. Very odd about the abandonment of last year's eggs.
Hopefully Green DX will attract a mate and give them two productive nests.
