NEWS FROM OTHER NESTS - 2012

Dunedin male:

  • Rach : The webcam was live on nest 1 at the start of the season but seems to have gone off. No idea why.

This is the latest news re the 3 nests:

"Nest 1-  Green DX (one of the males on nest 1) has been seen a few times in the last week but no sign of a female. Nest 2 - No ospreys have been seen on it since the start of April."

I asked about the ID of the ospreys on Nest 3 and this was the reply:

"The female is green ringed meaning she was ringed in about 2004 meaning she is 8 years old, as of yet we havent been able to ID the letters on her ring so I cant tell you anymore. The male is unringed. We will keep you posted."

i am surprise Dyfi haven;t mentioned a second egg on an updated blog......perhaps they only write it once a week

Patilty Dyfi are doing a daily update on Facebook - they seem to be using that as their main communications route. There's an update on there today about an injured Red Kite they had brought in to them.

EDIT The link to the Dyfi Facebook page is here

  • One has got to remember that this time last year Dyfi did not have a website only a  FaceBook page.

Thanks Alan. So the only nest where things look promising is Nest 3 then. Is 'Metal Ring' one of the males on nest 1 then, or has he moved on? I'm sure I read that he had paired up with the female whose eggs he kicked out of the nest last year. Maybe she had a deja-vue moment and decided not to hang around!

    Good news, Alan.

How come the 'regular' male (as they refer to him) is AW, when there was another AW at Rutland?

  • Two ospreys on the Kalakotkas nest! Lovely.

  • Two attempted matings, but the female doesn't seem keen.
