Well, it's now "tomorrow" and a new week, so I decided to start new thread because I don't often see this hour of the morning!!
Just been through all today's photos with OH: some good Damselflies but having a difficult time sorting the birds!
Really must pack up and go to bed . Have a good Sunday, everyone - and don't miss Gary's Saturday photos of Toffee on previous thread. And please join with prayers, candles, positive thoughts for Isidora (see QW's post on page 22).
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Hello to everyone. Been catching up with the last two days, so thanks for pics and news. Had a great day out on Wed. We walked at Kings steps and there were only about a dozen people on the beach despite it being a glorious day. Met a couple with 4 Vizlas, 2 of them wire haired which I had never come across before so we had a 5 min chat. Then it was off to Brodie countryfare and first of all we bumped into 2 people who worked with OH when he was a hotel manager. Heidi and Jo now live in Dunvegan (Skye) and Stornoway with their police husbands. Next while we were eating Wendy came in, so of course she joined us, then a waitress who worked at the Golf View in Nairn, and finally as we walked out, who should be coming in - but the 2 people we met on the beach with the Vizlas. what a small world.
Today as my cold is much better I swam 52 lengths which is over 1/2 mile so am well pleased with myself. Home for a few hours and walked Dillon. Off soon but will be back home tomorrow for a while. we have a 40th birthday celebrate in the afternoon. Bye for now, see you soon and look forward to hearing more of your news.
Nice to 'see you' diblib. And great to hear what a smashing time you had on your day out to Kings Steps. It is a small world - we are often amazed at how we meet people in far away places, who we know. Impressed by your swimming - must be good for you. (perhaps I should go back to it) Enjoy the birthday celebration tomorrow.
Dull weather here turned into hot sunshine - I had to take my light jacket off when I went shopping, and came home hot and tired. Now its dull again but a nice summers day, really, on the whole.
Dibnlib, How lovely to hear from you. I hope all is going well. So pleased to hear you are having some time at home.
Alan, We have been to our usual kingfisher places on our small river but haven't seen one this year. Lovely to see your photographs. Great to see the cygnets but I wonder how many she started with.
Brenda : I was really surprised to see this swan family because I thought the only nest this year was the one with 8 cygnets. Also it is very late to have such young cygnets. In addition to this we have a Great Crested Grebe sitting on its second clutch of eggs. Only one chick survived from the first hatch and it can still be seen around the lakes. It was a pleasant surprise to see the Kingfishers yet again after seeing them a few weeks ago.
Morning all:
Margo: Glad you're feeling on the mend.
Alan: Gorgeous kingfisher and great photos of the swans - especially that last one!
dibnlib: Great that you had such a lovely day out. Did you read that you inspired me to get my bike out and start tooling about the neighborhood? Thank you. Had a lovely ride yesterday to my two favorite garden centers then explored a couple of the local bike paths that wind through the city, often past trees and creeks. Very nice.
Off to gym (have lost three pounds - hurray!) then lunch with friend and afternoon goofing around with her in local charity shops!
Take care everyone.
The butterfly count starts tomorrow and runs to the end of the month. It only takes 15 mins to do.

A friend sent me the link to a London performance of this traditional old song, and I immediately thought of Bynack! LOL!!! I'll Fly Away
I had just been watching Bynack forlornly standing on the edge of the nest looking down. :-)
Diane, you asked for more verse, so here you are.
On 19th Jan, 2006 a bottlenosed whale got stranded in the Thames. Here is the story
I was moved to write a poem about it so here it is...
Stranded Whale
Into an alien world she strayed Unlike her own, and sore afraid, She swam into the shallows, lost, A wrong move made at such a cost. Her life was forfeit at the end... Was she alone without a friend? Oh no....as human feelings grew, Surrounded by a fervent few Who tried a rescue for her sake. The diff’rence ever did they make, As giving of their very best They showed true mettle to the rest. With one huge heart and one huge mind Showed that the best of human kind Still pulses there When there is someone who will care For creatures like this stranded whale. A sad, sad ending to the tale, Yet one that heartened all who saw That valiant bid, that mortal law That doth decree that all must try To love without a reason why And give it with no thought of gain, To heed another creature’s pain, To care enough to try To set it free... Thanks Tiger. Another unforgettable happening and one that really tugged at the heartstrings. There is something about whales.
I had to edit my post as something went wrong in the copying over of the verse. Seems ok now. Plus I said 'he' and it was a 'she'. Have put that right with apologies to the whale.
