OK, let's see how this goes. Maybe use this page for general chat, which can include ospreys, but also non-osprey related chatter? It also doesn't have to be Daily, but time will tell. It may not take shape until after the Diary goes away.
As Carol noted, Tiger set up the "Tracking Rothes and Mallachie" page, which might be the best place for serious observations about our girls and their progress. There's also a "Tracking Other UK Ospreys" page .
In the meantime, we can twitter on about ospreys, dogs, guinea pigs, kids, vacations, etc., - and post poems - here without boring the "osprey only" members of the community.
Feel free to boo loudly and make suggestions if you see any problems. Thanks everyone!
Cirrus, I echo your feelings about the girls crossing the Sahara. I am hoping that perhaps they might stay in Spain, like Beatrice one of Roy Dennis tagged ospreys.

Oh, that's a wonderful thought DjoanS. But isn't Mallachie's route being more 'central' than Rothes likely to cause her to by pass Rothes bird sanctuary on the Atlantic coast of France?

Not sure about 'flight paths' and things like that! My geography isn't too good either :))) But I do live in hope. I am trying to find out about Beatrice's migration path.
Welcome Maureen :)
Bustards at Petes Pond just now, I always think t there's something a bit odd about them, like someone just stuck a few bits of different birds together.

Oh, Soosin, I thought you new avatar was of Garten and Mallachie together but here on the Chat page the images are larger and I can see that that is not so. Nice pic though. What are the birdies please?
I also am so sorry to see the flooding in Scotland. I hope everyone is safe.
I hate to say but over here in Connecticut, US, we are still in summer mode even though it is a little chilly some evenings.
Greater Spotted Eagles,
Still no rain here in Hunts but exceptionally windy. When I was out and about earlier driving about I saw a stoat carrying what must have been a field vole or a mouse. Could see it quite close from the car. Definately a stoat not a weasel as it had a black tip to its tail.
Well, Alan, now I am bemused. I felt 'smugly' sure I had sussed out that you (IR) was in Dundee !
My forecast for the west and south (think I must have put in on the Migration page) about light winds ! seems to be a liitle 'out' having been out a while this am . I personally found it very blustery indeed and I hope Mallachie who is flying with the wind directly (more or less) into her lovely face is not finding it to hard going. I loathe hiking into a head wind - it just makes it all so much more arduous - and Ospreys don't really weigh a lot, do they?
