Happy Easter to all

Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .
Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.

I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.

Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural?
Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.

OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet?
OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL

  • I'll add my Happy Birthday wishes for Joan, enjoy your day!

Alan, I look forward to seeing pics of you in your fascinator!

Got stuck on that blue page, then started at the end, so will now try to go back as I know I've missed a couple of things (OG).

  • Good morning everyone.  As the soon to be husband and Duke of Cambridge enters the Abbey, I must have a quick chat.

Happy Birthday Joan.  Enjoy your day.

Gary many years ago OH dangled a carrot of a few days in Boston to get him to Vermont to ski!  We stayed at Woodstock and skied at Killington I think.  Of course I've only seen the area under feet of snow, but it was beautiful.

OG I was so sorry to hear that your son feels he cannot continue with his job.  It must be very difficult for both him and you.  Whenever there is an air display at Duxford the planes usually fly together in formation before heading over the airfield.  We have seen some wonderful fly pasts overhead, particularly when there have been WWI and WWII celebrations.  We have even had Concorde taking part years ago.

Tiger I loved the AV video!

AQ Your celebratory dinner sounds absolutely delicious.  Love your Friday Smile - what a great verse to keep stuck to the fridge!

Annette Oh dear another of our blogging friends suffering with the dreaded lurgy.  I do hope you feel better soon.

Oh my word Diane, 60 mph winds and flooded back years.  So glad yo are safe, it must have been very scary.  But as you say with 300 folk killed in various areas affected by tornadoes, you have come off lightly.  Take care though.

Eagle Eye quite right too.  I yelled at the radio this morning over the same facts, and they really ought to know better.  (Flag v Jack)

Lindybird have a lovely time with Sweetpea and family over the weekend.

Must go back to the larger TV in the living room for an important ceremony!!  Enjoy your day everyone.  I may pop back just to see what you are all thinking of it all!!!  I feel so very proud to be British on a day like this and almost tearful.  So many people have turned out from all parts of the world.

  • Hi to you Margo  - you're all organised I see ) . Got your prioities in oder   ....  sort the birds out first :)

Enjoy your day with the Wedding  - great organisation with dinner tonight!!  (I'm working)

  • Now replies (nothing else to do today, is there?)

AQ – liked your Gladdie for Joan – touch of Dame Edna there!  Birthday dinner sounds good – shame about the coffee and the bill!  Nice that wee Lizette is still around – and that you are looking after her.  Funny weather with you too?  We have summer in spring, you have summer in autumn!

Annette – sorry about the cold, and all the dust and pollens which will be no help at all.  I know just what you mean about a dry and runny nose!  Rest and fluids is my prescription!  Get well soon!

Diane – sorry the previous night was worse than I thought round your way – hope you are getting a full night’s rest now, and wake refreshed – and hope for no more storms around your house.

Lindy – pleased you are sticking with the meds this time around and feeling some benefit.  Glad about Buzz too.

Brenda – Uh!  Surprised you had rain or hail, and sorry it’s a dull day with you.

Margo – pleased Billie eventually forgave you for going out last evening – hope she doesn’t blame you for the garage incident!  Enjoy your royal-watching today and your weekend in London.

Sheila – saw on the news that a few vintage planes were flying in formation around 1pm yesterday and one downed in a private lake in Essex, killing two (as yet unidentified) men – hope these weren’t what you saw flying over your way – I’d rather believe that yours were on the way to the wedding.

OH has just turned on the television!  Can’t think why - I suppose I should be glad he waited this long!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Morning all ... thanks for your birthday wishes .. and the lovely pictures of flowers and views! We had a lovely meal yesterday ... stopped at a country pub that had a carvery ... thought it might be busy because our schools are still on holiday, but it was quiet. We both indulged in the carvery .. OH had the beef ... I couldn't make my mind up, so was allowed a bit of everything!!! We couldn't manage a dessert ... but OH went out shopping after we got back ... and came home with a very decadent mixed berry/lemon cream/sponge/liqueur concoction dessert which was wonderful :-))

I have been watching bits of the wedding ... mainly to see who is there and what everyone is wearing! It is the ceremony now, so having a break ..... BUT .... I am now the proud owner of a laptop, so I won't miss a thing on the nest!

Take care all ... back later.

  • Good afternoon all and what a perfect wedding.  Catherine's dress so simple and elegant and she looked stunning.  Prince William and Catherine looked quite relaxed and enjoying the whole thing.  The service was very enjoyable, choice of hyms and olther music spot on.  Was so pleased to see the Duke olf Edinburgh greeting Camilla with a kiss on the cheek and some friendly banter going on.  Queen looked so nice in lemon outfit and no black shoes with this outfit.  Wonderful to see the full dress uniforms of the the immediate Royal family too.  Catherine's parents looked on so proudly at their beautiful dughter marrying her prince. The pageantry of this country is something that may other countries are envious of and I agree with Sheila FE  about feeling quite emotional. and proud to be British.  Two kisses on the balcony sending the crown even more wild.  Wonderful fly past of the Hurricane, Spitfire and Wellington followed by more modern aircraft.  The rain stayed away and the sun managed to shine while they were in the Abbey.  How beautiful it looked in there.  The organisation as usual was just magnificent, everything timed to the minute,  and  this could only  happen in this country.  The other thing that amazed and which never fails to is the way the police control all those people coming down the Mall.  How nice it was to see so many young people joining in the celebrations for the happy couple.    In a world that is full of troubles it was good tol see something so joyful to take your mind away from what is happening.  I am very fond of Price Harry, loved the way he was talking to Catherine's sister and the bridesmaids.    All in all a day to celebrate and it seemed much less formal and more of a family occasion.  Needless to say I have enjoyed every minute and hope those of you who watched also enjoyed it.

  • Margo I couldn't have put it any better at all!  You summed it up beautifully.  Westminster Cathedral also looked wonderful.  The much spoken of mature trees enhanced the Gothic architecture and yet brought the scale of the roof down, making it more intimate.  The music was magical, with a new choral piece by John Rutter.  Apart from being given the title of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Queen has also bestowed the title of Earl and Countess of Strathearn.  The last Duke of Cambridge apparently died in 1904, and refused to agree to arranged marriages.  He married his mistress with whom he already had two children, with another on the way!  He deemed arranged marriages as doomed to failure!! (according to the Daily Telegraph).

  • Indeed I did Margo - although I didn't initially think I would.  And I have seen , on the news, those marrigae vows I missed whilst having a look at  EJ .  LoL. (she's a princess to me )

Queen's outfit perfect too. In fact it was all about simplicity and elegance I thought, apart from one or two 'silly' hats . I just bet the PM's  wife regrets not wearing a hat !!  Fancy missing out on a chance to wear something we normally don't have occasion to wear. (in my opinion)
