Happy Easter to all

Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .
Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.

I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.

Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural?
Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.

OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet?
OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL

Lindybird - your mention of flag reminds me.  The correct description is normally Union Flag.  The term Union Jack only applies when it is actually flown on the jackstaff on a ship!  Call me pedantic if you like.

Hi Eagle-Eye -  Living up to your name then!  Yes, I know that is the correct description, but as most folks call it the Union Jack I didnt want to confuse overseas readers!  Mine is hanging "top to bottom" in the window, so at least I didnt have to worry about it being the Wrong Way Up as is often the case, either!

  • Morning all,

Well the day has finally dawned.

Yes. It is the semi finals of The World Snooker Championship today. Looking forward to at least one good match today. I believe there is a chap called William or Williams who has Welsh connections. He could well become the snooker king one day. Anyway may The Best Man win. Know wot I mean 'arry?

Now where did I put that fascinator?

  • Now, what I really came here for:

(don't know why the writing came out red - must have been the last colour I used, sorry!)

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi Alan   - Enjoy the Semis!   -- we expect to see a pic of you in your fascinator, later on!!!!

  • Thank Linda.

There are a lot of flags out today. I did not know snooker was so popular?

  • I was woken at 1am by very heavy rain. It could have even been hail, it was so noisy. Cloudy and dull this morning.

Annette, Sorry you are feeling so bad. Hope you managed to have a good night's sleep.

Heather, Sounds as if you will need another holiday after all that work. Our ceanothus also suffered badly during the winter.

AQ,  What a lovely meal. I had a good laugh about your OH forgetting his wallet.

Diane, So glad to hear that you are safe without much property damage. Looking at the TV reports and pictures and reports, it looks horrendous. The fatality list keeps increasing. So sorry for those who have lost family members and also those who have lost their homes.

Linda, If you click on the red cross, your  lovely Formby photograph appears on it's own page.

I am writing this at the same time as I watch the TV. There is a village celebration this afternoon so will probably go and have a look, if it doesn't rain.

You live in a lovely place in the world Sheila – how I wish I  wasn’t a city dweller

Nice to hear from you Heather – hope the garden work didn’t take the shine off your holiday. It’s always a disappointment losing plants, isn’t it.

    Lovely pics Lynette

I’ve already voted Tiger (and just hope everyone does the right thing). Wish they’d give us a referendum concerning Brussels and Europe. Will check out your link after I’ve posted.

I trust Sons and Nephews find their way back into the market place and life in general. It can be so hard on young (ish) people

AQ – simply stunning Gladioli. My mouth watered at your menu

So sorry you’re not well today Annette – may your body fight off the infection very swiftly

Hello to you Diane. It’s very good to know you have not suffered too badly in the latest episode of storm weather. I’m shocked that so many have died further south -  and my heart  goes out to their families too.

Eagle eye – it’s obvious now you’ve told me that but I’ve always wanted to understand that about the flag. Thanks.

How good to hear you are starting on the up and up Lindy – nice pic of Cyprus

OG – a wonderful pic – stunning colour

And finally, I suppose I’d better turn the telly on

  • Good morning all  and the big day has arrived.  Rushed around this morning sorting out the bird tables, sweepting and washing their patio down, preparing veg for dinner tonight and hanging washing out.  Hoping it will dry although the sun is trying to come out now.  Hope it shines for the wedding.  Poor Billie managed to get himself shut in the garage.  Didn't see her go in and she likes to get up into the storage space at the top.  It wasn't until I went out to peg washing out that I heard her miaowing.  she was on in there about 10 minutes but will really have to check now when I shut the door.  Had a nice meal with our friend last night and we think Billie took unbrage because when we came home and tried to coax her in for a while she just turned her back on us, we roared with laughter at her antics but she did come in for half an hours and has obviously forgiven us for going out.

Have just seen Prince William and Prince Harry leave for the Abbey both in full military uniforms, wonderful sight.

Diane  I am relieved you only suffered minimal damage but you must have felt very frightened.  My heart goes out to you and all those who have lost their lives, the injured and all who have lost their homes.  I see these storms are expected to last until Saturday.  Do stay safe and I will be thinking of you.

Alan  hope you and Hamish are getting better and I can just imagine you sitting there with a fascinator on.

Annette so sorry to hear you are feeling rather unwell.  Take care of yourself and have some rest.  Sorry you had to put up with so much noise when you did try to sleep.

Lyneete thanks for the goldfinch pic and DT picture of the crested grebes.

Heather B pleased you have managed to catch up with holiday washing.  What a shame you lost some plants due to the very extreme weather you had this year.

Sheila FE lovely view from your kitchen window and nice the birds visit the box your OH has made.  Good to hear the blackbird recovered.  I find the worst time for that is when the babies start flying around.  Dread what I will find when you hear the crash against the window.  Have often had the outline of wood pigeons imprinted on the window too.

dibnlib lovely pics of LG again, can't wait to see all that scenery for myself.  I had a good laugh at your words about men.

original goldfinch what a beautiful photo of the red squirrel who kept you company.  Very nice card for Joan.

Lindybird  another nice photograph and so happy that Buzz has much improved and for now you are getting on with your medication.

Have not mentioned everyone I know but have a good day and if watching the main event today hope you enjoy it.

Won't be on much for the next few days as we are off to London tomorrow to meet up with OH's Mum to take her out to lunch in a French restaurant my OH has found and which has some good reviews.

  • Hi Cirrus  enjoy the wedding guest all starting to arrive now.

    Margobird

  • Good morning Brenda can you send the rain our way please.  We have not had proper rain since the March and the garden really does need some.  Hope the rain stays away and you get to village celebration.
