Weekly Chat, Sunday March 6, 2011

Welcome to another week. Do check back lest you miss the pics of many and varied birds plus a certain Toffee. And lots of news of course. Diane had another thunderstorm.

Diane - Uncontrollable children in olden days. Children were sent out to "service" as young as 10. Of course they ran away, thus breaking "Masters & Servants Act". Probably broke other laws as humans do. There were probationary school from which they also ran away. I found some twigs on my family tree who were regularly in trouble with the law - for playing the wicked game of two-up in pubs! Their 13 year old brother went one better (ahem), he broke into a school.

Patriciat - So sorry your OH has fallen again. Don’t worry about moaning to us. We do understand. I’m sending blue skies and healing thoughts to your house.

Our spring bulbs are appearing - confused by the unseasonal rain a few weeks ago. Poor things, there’s another possible 3 weeks of hot weather (34C so far today) and winter rains are not usual until May.

Whoo hoo. Less than 3 weeks to OR Day (Osprey Return day). I wonder what soap opera saga they have for us this year!

  • Good afternoon all and welcome to Shirley D we just need one more now to reach 400.

Had real trouble posting on here this morning it keep coming up with the error page although I checked and the posts that I did were on.

Alan Thanks for the captures and HD cameras do make such a difference.  Aria looks beautiful.  Wonderful story about the eagle although it will be a shame if she cannot be released back to the wild.  How lucky she was to be found and is now looking much better.

Hope your Tesco mission went well and like you our weather is warmer today but now quite so sunny and we have had some showers.  Can't complain though at least it is not snow.

Diane  such bad news about the dead sardines.    Thanks to the link for the Aussie cam, just had a look and it is getting light there so will pop in later.

Annette yes a live Toffee cam would be fun but not sure how I would fit everything in, spend enough time as it already looking at webcams and our osps have not even arrived yet.

WndyB thought of you this morning and can see from your posts that you had snow.  Hope by now it has all gone and doesn't freeze over tonight.  Just when we think Spring is around the corner Winter reminds us that it hasn't quite left us yet.

DjoanS thanks for the capture from the barn owl nest.  When I looked earlier this morning she was still in there so things looking promising according to the diary.  Hope the snow did not reach you in the end and hopefully those strong winds have eased.

dibnlib take care if you do go out don't want you falling over again.

TerryM  so pleased that your volunteering application was successful, you must be so pleased.

Lynette hope you will be able to visit Florence as it is a beautiful place.  The Amallfi coast is stunning and what place to spend a honeymoon.  Not a place to drive though as the roads are very narrow with sheer drops one side.  The scooter riders frighten you to death the way they weave in and out of the traffic.  Love all your captures of the giraffe, buffalo and elephants.  Every time I look in there is nothing around.

george g Diesel has the right idea when he didn't want to go out in the wind and rain.  I read about that programme but didn't watch.  So right that we shouldn't tamper with nature.

May have missed some people out but hope you are all OK.

    Margobird

  • MARGO  Had same problem posting earlier.

GARY  Dillon is getting quite jealous when I keep telling OH how beautiful Toffee is!

Have been quite low recently so needed some retail therapy and for me that means shoes and we have this wonderful shoe shop in town called Rogersons. Came home with a pair the colour of the comunity background, a pair of wedge sandals with yellow, orange, red and brown straps and a pair ordered that are a kind of lilac flower pattern, and you know what, I don't feel guilty (well, only a little) the makes are Art and El Naturalista and I have a few of these already. They are incredibly well made and comfy from the word go.

  • dibnlib so sorry you have been feeling quite low but glad the retail therapy helped and no need to feel guilty, Going to look at their site as I have terrible problems with shoes that are comfy.  Usually go to Clarks but some of of the ones on offer are just awful, some\woudl say that is fashion but they don't appeal to me at all.

    Margobird

  • Hi all,

I guess it's getting near to the time for daily log-ins on osprey watch.

Let's hope or another peaceful and successful season at Loch Garten.

    Sue

  • Hi Sue getting very close now and I wish the same our ospreys.

    Margobird

  • Must be Scotland – four seasons in one day!  OH managed to the recycling centre between two cold sleet showers this morning while I did kitchen stuff, and we stayed dry going for my blood tests this afternoon – and coffee shop on the way home.  He’s now treating the planters and obelisks for the Honeysuckles while I have a sit-down, then early dinner and off to Bird Club.

Trouble getting on weekly page to read, but looks like we’re now in business!

Gary  - more great pics of the lovely Toffee.

Diane – thanks for asking – didn’t get the cold but still not feeling very good at all.  Son is getting better, but still seeing the Doc tomorrow, because if he cancels then it gets worse again he would regret it.  Hadn’t heard about the Sardines.

Wendy – bright new avatar – but what is it??  We have a loyalty card system for our local Coffee Lounge so one of us had a free one yesterday – maybe that’s why we supported it two days running!

Brenda – when I seem busy, remember I am only half busy, since OH has to get stuff ready for me for any kitchen jobs I do, and everything takes me so long.

Terry – so pleased you have heard from Bassenthwaite and are included – hope they have you down for the dates you wanted, and no clash with holiday!

Lynette – sorry about the suite covers.  When we had animals (and young children), we found it more economical to buy cheap suites and replace more often than to get the covers which looked “second-best”.

George – could just imagine Diesel looking out the door and shaking his head at the suggestion of going outside!  If I insisted ours went out, she looked back over her shoulder as if to say “do I really have to?” – or “why are you staying indoors?”!

Alan – really heart-warming eagle story!

Things to do now – may be back later, if not, “see” you all tomorrow.  Eagle-Eye said to pass on his good wishes!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Mission Elgin completed tyres swapped car checked over and totally free. We praised the service there when we first went there and the main man was at the desk as they other guy was sorting out my bill. A quick wave of his hand and I came out with a broad grin.

Avatar is a "see no" duck...had a bit of a run in with someone on a different blog and it is a little bit of sarcasm. All a bit silly so silly duck.

Didnlib loving the retail, my sort of girl. OH worries about my trip to Bath especially as I am going by car. Once when I flew down I had to pay for excess baggage on way back.

Diesel I don't blame you...neither of my daughters dogs like wet weather.

Diane: Our water is very pure...the same water goes into making Cragganmore whisky and also feeds the local B and B so is tested regularly. It is also lime free so elements in washing machines etc go on forever.

Snow gone as quickly as it came. Tomorrow though is another day so who knows.

  • Morning all: Slow getting on today. Sorry, another longish post. Sigh. It's sunny and warm here today - just made a list of things to do/errands around town so should be a nice day for it. Don't look now, but we have another problem with our Panasonic flat screen: The audio goes all fuzzy after it's been on about three hours. We can turn it off, then back on again, and it's okay, but who needs more aggro?  I called the regional service manager directly this time and he's making a personal appearance along with a service guy next Monday morning.

Wendy: Glad snow disappeared and free car check up too! How nice - I find that folks we patronize regularly do get "generous" with the odd service. Would love to taste that water (even without the Cragganmore).

Alan: If Tesco's anything like our markets, it's better on Wednesdays than Saturdays. I keep meaning to ask how is Lady P doing these days.  You're right - that new HD cam is wonderful.

dibnlib: Sorry you've been feeling down! Sending a "one-size-fits-all" hug for whatever ails you. Enjoy the shoes - shopping for shoes is my idea of what purgatory must be like! Or maybe hell (imagine going from one shoe shop to another through all eternity and never finding a pair that fit properly.....)  :-)

Trish: Does the van's driver have furry skin, a long tail and pointy ears?

Sue: Good to see you. We're getting close and yes, last season made easy watching, the chicks were so nice to each other.

Terry: Can you imagine having a live webcam inside your house? Horrors! Nice that you finally heard about your volunteer gig.

OG: Sorry you're not feeling 100%; hope son keeps his doc appointment. Enjoy the Bird Club - I have a Rose Society meeting tomorrow night, which is always pleasant.

Off for a quick hose down and out the door. Take care all

  • Super capture Alan - I always seem to miss the closeups.

I must have missed our latest recruits post but anyhow, welcome Shirley

George - don't blame Diesel not wanting to go out in all the wind and rain.

  • Change over had just taken place, maybe there is snow in the Highlands but also here, and sitting on eggs, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh.
