Welcome to another week. Do check back lest you miss the pics of many and varied birds plus a certain Toffee. And lots of news of course. Diane had another thunderstorm.
Diane - Uncontrollable children in olden days. Children were sent out to "service" as young as 10. Of course they ran away, thus breaking "Masters & Servants Act". Probably broke other laws as humans do. There were probationary school from which they also ran away. I found some twigs on my family tree who were regularly in trouble with the law - for playing the wicked game of two-up in pubs! Their 13 year old brother went one better (ahem), he broke into a school.
Patriciat - So sorry your OH has fallen again. Don’t worry about moaning to us. We do understand. I’m sending blue skies and healing thoughts to your house.
Our spring bulbs are appearing - confused by the unseasonal rain a few weeks ago. Poor things, there’s another possible 3 weeks of hot weather (34C so far today) and winter rains are not usual until May.
Whoo hoo. Less than 3 weeks to OR Day (Osprey Return day). I wonder what soap opera saga they have for us this year!
LYNETTE not me holidaying in Scotland though often have as it is such a wonderful country. We have lived in various parts of Scotland including West Lothian where I grew up. Leuchars in Fife (twice) Lossiemouth in Moray, Ayr, Shetland and now Culloden where we have lived for 15 years.
Heron77 gubbed, that's a new one on me.
Right must get Mia out for last walk before work. See you later.
I'm so sorry. I forgot to Welcome finicky in the previous ramblings.finicky: A very warm welcome to you. You'll have a fantastic time here :-)Paul.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Heron 77 don't apologise for the long post. Lovely to read about all the birds visiting you and well done the blackbirds for the winning score. Have spent a lot of time this morning just watching everything going on in the garden. Birds definitely enjoying the sun and as I type Billy is laying in the sun on my patio. want to go out int the garden but don't want him to run although when he does run nowadays it is not far away.
I agree with you about ospreys making you feel humble, what an amazing journey Belle had. The long journeys they undertake are just amazing.
Margobird
ANNETTE you must be so proud of Granddaughter doing so well. hope all goes equally well with babies arrival. I am sure you will love "Spy on the Ice" esp as it concentrates totally on the Polar Bears rather than people filming them. The narrator David Tennant gets it just right and the music adds to some of the amusing antics.
MARGOBIRD. When I hear of the birds collecting nesting material it always brings back wonderful memories of Fingal. He had the most luxurious thick coat and used to need brushing at least once a day. At nesting time I used to then stand back and watch the Sparrows come down to collect his hair for their nests. Oh took a lot off the Leylandi a few years back and one disgarded nest was beautifully line with his fur. When we knew that he didn't have long left (he was put to sleep at the end of Feb 2007) every time I brushed him I would save his hair ready for the nesting season. Dillon has a few health probs and doesn't have the usual thick Retriever undercoat but he does his best for the birds!!!
dubnlib what a lovely story about Fingal and the birds obviously approved, a nice tribute to him. I am sure Dillon does his best for the birds.
TRISH 2 for gubbed read soundly beaten eg The Scots were gubbed by the English during Sundays Calcutta Cup. hope it is not the case and it is true that this is the match where the intense rivallry between Scotland and England brings out the best in the Scots "Here's hoping"
LYNETTE realised that what I said about places lived was not quite true (posted in a hurry as OH was hovering thinking he wanted to get on the laptop before going to work) OH was posted to Lossie and we lived at Mosstodloch some 14 miles away. Our address was Mosstodloch, Fochabers, Moray and I had to smile as when we left 2 years later my English in laws had still not learned how to pronounce the ch's properly!!!!Nor had my English Grandparents. In fact my Grandparents till their dying day always called the place where Mum lived Deckmont and not Dechmont.
