Weekly Chat, Sunday March 6, 2011

Welcome to another week. Do check back lest you miss the pics of many and varied birds plus a certain Toffee. And lots of news of course. Diane had another thunderstorm.

Diane - Uncontrollable children in olden days. Children were sent out to "service" as young as 10. Of course they ran away, thus breaking "Masters & Servants Act". Probably broke other laws as humans do. There were probationary school from which they also ran away. I found some twigs on my family tree who were regularly in trouble with the law - for playing the wicked game of two-up in pubs! Their 13 year old brother went one better (ahem), he broke into a school.

Patriciat - So sorry your OH has fallen again. Don’t worry about moaning to us. We do understand. I’m sending blue skies and healing thoughts to your house.

Our spring bulbs are appearing - confused by the unseasonal rain a few weeks ago. Poor things, there’s another possible 3 weeks of hot weather (34C so far today) and winter rains are not usual until May.

Whoo hoo. Less than 3 weeks to OR Day (Osprey Return day). I wonder what soap opera saga they have for us this year!

Good morning ALICAT so pleased to hear you have booked a holiday in Scotland, you both need one I am sure.  See you are going to Loch Garten and wondered whether it would be when I am up there.

Good morning margobird, unfortunately not we travel there on 18th June i beleive thats the day you travel home we probley get there quite late in the day as we are traveling from east yorkshire area

  • Just paid a visit to Lily and Hope.  I wondered why it appeared foggy in the den but then read the diary and discovered that Hope had decided the camera needed a wash and gave it a good lick.  What a clever girl. I suppose it's just like when the osprey chicks fire at the nest cam!

Mrs SH didn't visit for the snack OH left out so I threw it out before dark last night.  It was quite funny in the morning as even though it was high in the apple tree Mia was wandering round the bottom of the tree having a really good sniff.  Amazing sense of smell they have.

  • Alicat if you're there for 2 weeks we will probably pass you coming home as we go up!  LG are going to have a steady stream of bloggers through the door.

  • Trish 2   sorry about your dishwasher.  We have a dishwasher but OH like to do the washing up in a bowl and at Ieast I know he won't break down.  Rant away utility costs are gong through the roof, I beleive our water bill will rise by over 7% this year.

  • Good morning BrendaH so pleased you had a nice day yesterday.  Geneva would be a lovely place to be but hopefully your son will be able to find something so they can be together.

Same weather here, very pretty first thing, sun now shing brightly but still a little chilly.

  • Good morning to all I have missed hope you are having a good day.  I feel I should apologise for filling the chat up with numerous posts.  Sometimes I write down what I want to say to each and then just do the one blog.  This is fine as long as I can read what I have written and often I can't hence so many posts.  My handwriting is appalling these days, often have to look at shopping lists i have written from all angles to try and work out what it says.

Billy around so much more now and OH and I agree how much better he looks now.  Was definitley thinner when he first turned up last October.  He is going to be fed while we are away as I couldn't just abandon him now.

    Have a good day all.

  • WOW! Five pages, and its only Monday morning GMT.  You've excelled yourselves as per usual.  Many thanks for all your posts, pics etc :-)

Busy morning, started with the Dawn Chorus.  So despite it still being a little chilly, I decided to open the windows and listen to the battle between Blackbirds and distant traffic.  To be fair the distant traffic put up a good effort.  However to cut a long story short the final score was Blackbirds 3 distant traffic 0.  It could've been more but the Blackbirds decided to let their superior skills do the talking, and the second half was spent with the Blackbirds showing off their trickery, and distant traffic, chasing shadows and longing for the mercy of the final whistle.

As well as cleaning the usual table trays and hosing and refilling the bird baths, I hosed and scrubbed the paths, and cleaned a few feeders this morning.  Awesome payment for this was as follows: Blackbird, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Collared Dove, Dunnock, Feral Pigeon, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, House Sparrow, Jackdaw, Robin, Siskin, Starling, and Woodpigeon.

    Annette:
Sorry to hear you could only find shoes who's colour combos nesescitate the wearing of sunglasses.  All the very best to your granddaughter and the baby.  A warm welcome to him or her when he or she arrives.

auntie:  Glad to hear that the Finnish birds are becoming vocal.  I hope your winter soon makes way for a brilliant spring and wonderful summer.  Thanks for the webcam news.

Alan:  Great news regarding BEATRICE.  Hope she has a succesful migration.  Thanks for the Peregrine pic.

    Margo:
Hope your weather gets warmer.  You deserve good teperatures and I'm sure your birds think that too, and of course Billy Whizz :-)  Thanks for the  news on Palemale and Paula.

dibnlib:  I'm so relieved to hear your relatives in Christchurch are okay.  You are 100% correct on the talking to birds and animals thing.  I often find my self saying things to the birds in my garden.  The local birds probably have to translate for the benifit of the migrant birds who've only learned English. ;-)

    Gary:
Applogise for my weather report making you choke on a digestive.  Well at least you didn't send the contents of a mouthful of tea, on a very rapid flight path. ;-)

ALICAT:  Have a fantatic holiday :-)  Welcome to Scotland!

Terry:  Hope you and your friend enjoyed the bike ride.  Nice to hear spring is starting.

Joan:  Hope the gardening went well.

Wendyb:  Hope the Speyside Spring keeps on its merry way towards the soon arrival of the Ospreys.  Enjoy your trip to Dorset.

Jan:  Great to hear from you again :-)

OG:  Don't worry about not posting for a while.  It's always nice to hear from you.  Hope your son gets well soon.

AQ:  Poor Jasper has a look that says: "Do you expect me to wear this?"  I hope he gets better soon.

Lynette:  Delighted to hear you enjoyed the Borders last year.  I've been to the South West of Scotland but not the South East.

    Trish 2:
Hope your weather gets a bit warmer.  Glad you've got a good mixture of little birds :-)  So sorry your dishwasher is on the blink.  Our freezer is gubbed but a new one arrives tommorow.  Hope the costs regarding your dishwasher aren't too painful.

    Brenda:
Hope your weather heats up soon.  Nice to hear yiu and yours had a nice lunch.

Tiger:  Thanks for the link regarding Belle's migration.  When I think about the distances covered by migratory birds, I'm amazed.  It's a pleasantly humbling feeling.  I'm not sure if that makes much sense but its the best way I can put it :-)

Edit to earlier bird list: Coal Tit, Great Tit, Rook.

Have a very happy Monday everyone.

    Sorry about the long post.

    Paul.
