Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 30,2011

What ho everyone! Lazy day for the most part - girding myself for the busy week ahead - oh for a week with no appointments, no projects, no visitors - but as they, say 'be careful what you wish for.'    Several folks added pix of Lily, Phoebe, and anonymous eagles on the last page or two of the previous thread, plus some quickie posts to wind up the week (AQ may have melted by the time you read this).   In the meantime, here's wishing Andy Murray the best at the Australian Open - it'll be over by the time I wake up.

Have a good Sunday all.

  • Morning all ... wet and windy here, but I'm not complaining, when I see what is happening elsewhere in the world.

Diane and Gary - I saw the reports of your severe weather and hope you are both ok. That is an awful storm in Australia too.

Lynette - so sorry about your eye ... and so easily done.

Alan - thanks for news of the 3 new Kielder nest sites ... it hasn't made it onto our local news yet!

Linda - I hope that your cough and 'strange symptoms' don't get any worse!

Brenda H - I hope your new furniture arrived safely ... and the old departed on time!

margobird - great to hear that your sister has a date for her treatment and that she is so positive ... and has things to look forward to. It sounds like Billy Whizz is really making himself at home in your garden ... HIS garden now!!

Thanks to everyone else for chat, links, pics etc.

    Take care.

  • Good morning trish 2 how lucky you are to see so much of Mrs Sparrowhawk.   I have a female who visits but not as much as this.  Don't like to see them catching the birds but they have to eat.  Might see more of her when the baby birds are around but even then she isn't always successful.  The biggest shock I had was when I saw a jay take a baby bird, hadn't realised until I read up about it that they do this.

  • Good morning Alan and thanks for the link to the Sutton Centre and alsothe news about the Dunedin cam.  We are getting to that time of the year again when there is an awful lot to keep up and our ospreys haven't arrived yet.  Hope shopping mission not too stressful.

  • Good morning Lindybird dull here too but as yet no rain, think we are getting that on Friday and Saturday.  Sorry you are not feeling quite right and hope it doesn't develop into something nasty.  Your OH has really had it bad and these coughs can take an age to go.    Don't worry about diet going out of the window, you do have to treat yourself sometimes and in the winter I always seem to eat more anyway.

I too am really worried for Diane and Gary hope they they will make contact soon and that they are safe.  Terrible weather in Queensland again, how much more can those poor folks take.

  • Good morning dibnlib can't really moan about our weather as we are not getting what they have in the USA and Queensland.  It looks just horrendous and for Queensland especially it will be many years before everything is back to normal.

Enjoy gym and swimmong and hope the bone scan is not too unpleasant.

Thanks for your kind thoughts about my sister and family, much appreciated.

  • Good morning patriciat and can see from the posts that everyone is horrified at the weather in Queensland and the USA.  Think you are right that the world's weather has gone mad.

Nice you have been invited to train for the World Chamionships and a shame that you cannot actually go.  Hope Tweed will get used to those lights eventually.

Hope your washing machine is fixed soon.

  • Good morning Lynette and ouch that sounds painful.  Glad you sought advice as eyes are so precious.  Hope it is a little less sore today.  As someone who has had eye problems alll her life with the necessity to put drops and cream in, I agree it is difficult to do.  Take care and give it a rest.

  •    aquilareen   how frightening this must be for the folks in Queensland.  Have been watching the news and could not believe how big an area this would cover.  Bushfires as well in Victoria.  Large swathes of Australia really suffering at the moment.  I could not live with the heat you have and can well imagine you feel like a wrung out dishrag.

  • Trish – I hadn’t realised that you also do Dog Agility, like Patricia!  Sorry that the shooting has gone on disturbing Mia, and I hope it stops soon, whether wildfowling or military.

Joan – good morning – and how is you back now?  Apologies if you have already mentioned it – I missed a whole day of posts last week!

Margo – I don’t mind a bit of extra weight in winter – but 0.4kg overnight seems too much when I only ate salad yesterday – and have a dietician appointment very soon!!

Really must do something more constructive – although I have already baked Canada Cakes and OH has made bread – since which we’ve been doing office stuff.  Dental check for me this afternoon.  Hope my local check-up dentist doesn’t find anything nasty, as I don’t think Dental Centre where I have treatment has managed to replace the lovely man who retired!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi margo - see that your weather is not much better than ours!   Hope Billy Whizz makes an appearance today.

Thanks to Alan for reminding us that its Groundhog Day!!!    (We love the film)

Have been supervising my OH as he makes changes to our driveway and the associated planting.  We had to cut down some of the hedge (cotoneaster) which I had been carefully encouraging to grow in a certain direction for the last 2 years (since we had the driveway widened) , as it stops folks from entering the driveway without it catching them by the arm!  Now its cut back I shall have to speak to it nicely, all over again, to get the effect right where it comes to a sudden stop (hope that all makes sense!).  Anyway, after we have replaced some of the stone chippings over the old, our garden should once again become a neat entrance.

Must dash off now for an early lunch:  friends arriving at 12.30 to go to Cinema.
