Morning all: Long day at the rose garden - poor Robert who supervises the volunteers has been fighting off a bug and a couple of us stayed on longer than usual to help him clean up stuff. I'm sure I'll be stiff tomorrow. Not as many folks showed up as last year and some of the beds were pruned by city employees which means we'll have to go over those beds again since they did a fairly perfunctory job.
Watching Mad Men (Netflix rental video of first season). Great viewing when you're too tired to think. Take care all and have a nice Sunday.
HiTrish 2: Sorry to hear Mia was scared by the gunshots.Brenda: Hope that morning frost is turning into a nice sunny day. I thought Heron77 would've been unique myself. I guess life's full of surprises.margobird: Glad to hear Billy whizz, is keeping well.Joan: Hope your back gets better soon.Alan: I'm glad to be back on the blog. :-)

Oh dear, big catch-up! I wrote a short one last night but just as I posted the site went AWOL – OH was reading, and it went down as he was waiting for next page too! Because I was being quick, I was doing it direct on reply, so lost forever! It was only to say that I had been missing with PC switched off because cleaning had reached the desks. Now study is completely cleaned, shelves rearranged and rubbish disposed – some bags to charity shop, others for bin men Thursday.
Took an hour out yesterday to buy a bin for guest room, OH having broken old one. Also bought our seed potatoes! Called in at Coffee Lounge. Uncharacteristically, I chose a slice of chocolate cake. It was soooo good that I asked for another piece! A young couple heard what I said, and decided they needed to try it! When owner cut it, the waitress said she feared she had cut first piece too small so he gave me a large slice to bring home, as commission for selling it to other customers and compensation for the smaller piece!!
Will do some replies now and others later, I think, with apologies and greetings to any I fail to mention. Just realised how many days I need to go back – think I will just start from Monday night UK time.
AQ – Son used to refer to short skirts as pelmets – some now so short that he calls them belts!
Diane – pleased to see you back from the city – surprised it was so soon! Thanks for link to Audubon article re nesting.
Annette – pleased planting is progressing well. My chair that wasn’t high enough for study and ended up at craft desk has a mesh back – very comfortable at the lower desk. I hope you are happy with your desk and chair. Surprised you had time to read a book for book club!
Lindy – sorry to read about burns and bruises – hope life was kinder to you Tuesday and today! (just seen you have a day out with shopping friend today, so hope lunch was good!) Lovely garden photo from last spring.
Alan – two white mornings with fog and frost, but forecast has been for fog all day, so can’t grumble with the amount of sunshine we have had. Not even walking on the soggy grass to look for bulbs yet!
Margo – pleased you are getting closer to Billy Whizz! Any news for your Sister yet from hospital?
Lynette – sorry about garage door – sounds like only the cable gone – hope so!
George – glad to hear your dog-thoughts sound positive! Enjoy the de-cluttering – I love doing it, and our study looks so good now.
Kelly – excellent capture of Norfolk Eagles – thanks. Great story about Farne Island Seal pups – hadn’t found that site before! Thanks for alert and pic of Phoebe’s hatchling.
Sugar Val – welcome aboard - hope you have been enjoying our ramblings and will stay with us.
Those all refer to posts dated up to 18th, back with today’s replies later, I hope.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
TRISH 2 think shooting season ends at different times for different animals/birds. shouldn't even begin as far as I am concerned!
Thanks LINDY for your thoughts.
Got the RSPB mag today. Love the Firecrest on the front page. Has anyone ever seen one of these beauties?
dibnlib - I got my RSPB mag today, too ... and I was lucky enough to see a firecrest once ... but in Ireland! We were visiting Glengarriff Bamboo Park in County Cork and there were a few firecrests flitting around in the bushes ... we were incredibly lucky :-))
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

MARGO How good to hear that Billy whizz is getting braver.
WENDY Saw Val this am and after 2 months unemployed she started 16hrs pw with Markies restocking in the evenings. She is now working 23hrs pw in food dept stocking and tills. Really enjoying it. Hadn't realized she had been more or less forced out of DW when they changed her start time and refused to budge- more fool them. OH said his side was much cleaner today so maybe someone is listening/reading. Thought I might try the x trainer tomorrow but not sure if I can get appropriate footwear on yet. Off to try them on now.
A while since I made one of my fav fish meals so had it for lunch today. Smoked cod and leek risotto, both agreed it was delich and gave it 12/10.
