Morning all:  Long day at the rose garden - poor Robert who supervises the volunteers has been fighting off a bug and a couple of us stayed on longer than usual to help him clean up stuff.  I'm sure I'll be stiff tomorrow. Not as many folks showed up as last year and some of the beds were pruned by city employees which means we'll have to go over those beds again since they did a fairly perfunctory job.

Watching Mad Men (Netflix rental video of first season).  Great viewing when you're too tired to think. Take care all and have a nice Sunday.

  • Margo - I bet Billy Whizz will come to you eventually and wait til you hear him purr!

After my last post re shooting I've just done a search and it seems things should improve after Feb 1st so not long now.  What amazed me though was that for Scotland Ptarmigan were on the list as having a season.  I wouldn't have thought it was allowed to shoot them - shows how much I know.

  • Good morning Heron 77 nice to see you and so pleased you are getting a lot of different birds visiting your garden.  I also think this year is going to go by quickly.  Can't believe that we are getting nearer and nearer  to the osprey season when hopefully both EJ and Odin will once again give us so much pleasure during the summer months.  Of course there is the excitement of my week's volunteering at LG which I can hardly wait for.    Hard to believe there is another one of you, bet that person does not have your lovely sense of humour.

  • Good morning trish 2 such a shame you had to curtail your walk.  Poor Mia, hope she is OK now.  My sister has a springer who is absolutely terrified of fireworks.  When that season is around he has to sleep in his basket in their bedroom to calm him down and won't go out for a walk at night.

  • I am hoping we will hear Billy Whizz purring sometime in the future.  I am surprised that they actually shoot Ptarmigan,  I thought they were endangered.

  • Morning all ... yet another beautiful, sunny day ... very frosty first thing, but it soon warmed up! I've been suffering with a bad back for a few days, so am feeling a bit sorry for myself  :-((( Don't know how I did it ... usually I feel something 'go', but not this time. I am taking things easy today ... puts paid to my spring-cleaning!! (Why does that lovely sunshine show up all the dust etc?!!)

I'll add my welcome to sugar!

Diane - welcome home ... glad to hear that your hawk was there to greet you! Dandy looks as if she would make a lovely companion for you in your fenced-in property :-))

Alan - great owl story ... thanks.

margobird - delighted to hear that Billy Whizz is becoming more used to you .... fingers crossed that he eventually ventures indoors.

Linda - enjoy your lunch and shopping trip ... sounds like you need it.

Thanks to everyone else for chat and beautiful pics.

    Take care.

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Morning all,

Kellogs : Thanks for the great pics of Phoebe and chick. I was taken totally unawares by this hatch as I was not expecting it until 20th at the earliest. Normally 1st hatch is 16 - 18 days after 2nd egg is laid, Lets hope all is well. Also thanks for the Dunedin news. I was wondering what was happening there.

Paul : Nice to see you back on the blog.

sugar : welcome to the blog. good to see you on here.

Thanks to everyone else for their posts chat etc.

Weather is sunny after early frost temp 3.9c. Been out and about this morning.

  • Good mronign DjoanS sorry to read you have a bad back, do take it easy today.  Hope it will improve soon.

I just popped into the bedroom to see if Billy Whizz had found himself a nice sunny spot in the garden just outside my bedroom window.  He was there and have just been talking to him again through the open window.  He really is a lovely little cat and looking very healthy I might add.

  • Just been on the RSPB website and there are 10,000 pairs of Ptarmigan in the UK - another surprise.  Shows how good they are at hiding.  We always keep our eyes open when we're on hols in the Cairngorms but very rarely spot one.

How do you do bold type here?

Margo what colour is Billy Whizz

  • Trish 2, Just press Ctrl and B  for bold type before you type the word you wish to highlight, or highlight any words after typing and then press Ctrl and B, followed by a left click. Click on Ctrl and B to reverse back to normal.

  • Margo, The sun has arrived. I wonder if Buzz may just pluck up courage one day and explore your home, when he finds an open door. Maybe not until the warmer weather.

Alan, Is your GE now showing the LG osprey records or do I need to reload GE again ?
