Good afternoon Alan and thanks for the link to Lake District osprey YU. Great pics and such good news
It's great to get news of a local bird - they leave the nest and that might be the last we hear of them if they are not tagged - amazing that she was spotted in the number of ospreys that are there.

Frederic Bacuez, who acted as guide to the Rutland team in Northern Senegal, has been updating his blog with accounts of their trips and lots of photos. The most recent reports are first - to go back, click on "messages plus anciens" at the bottom of the page.
I see Frederic's latest report also has a note from John Wright promising he will update his own blog, Wright's Wanderings soon - so look out for that too.
Interesting thing about YU, - I have the updated booklet from Whinlatter, and it has the weights of the three 2007 chicks on ringing. It has YU as definitely Male, with a low weight of 840g . the other two (YV & YT) are down as M/F with a mid-weight of 1380 and 1360g
Can we tell from the very good pictures on the Bass. site? I see the observers have it as female, but I can't tell.
Hi Chrisy, I hadn't got as far as looking at the weights although I did notice it had changed sex. The pic definitely shows a brown bib. If it is female perhaps it was the youngest and not very forward in getting fed by the time of the weighing. It's not easy to tell when they are still in juve feathers.
Yes, there is a bib, maybe not as large as EJ's... Whichever, though, it is good to know that the smallest in a brood can make it as far as YU has up to now. Hasn't she done well ! Nice if she returned to her home area, -wonder if she bred last summer, anyway she probably came North somewhere, at 3 years old.
