HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a good week.

The harvest is nearly complete here in my area. The leaves have almost all fallen off the trees, and they're dry and crunchy. Indiana has had the 3rd driest October in recorded history and the driest since 1964. My county is officially in drought, and there's a burn ban and red flag warnings because of the elevated fire risk and high winds. Lots of field, brush, and forest fires in my region. Just a few miles north of me is "severe drought". All very, very unusual for my state. We usually have the autumn rains.

The birds that migrate have left. The pileated woodpecker is staying the winter in the woods across from my front door. I'm continuing to leave apples for the groundhog. He hasn't begun hibernation yet.

Love and hugs to all.

  • ANNETTE   You have been busy, busy, busy and need to take a rest methinks.

  • Just a quick update. The rust on the car is a bit more severe than we thought. However, it is worth fixing and will still be ready tomorrow. But,  guess what? It will cost more. I trust the mechanic. He is local and I have known him for years. His reviews are always good. I will be glad to get it done and to be assured that it should now pass its MOT.
Fireworks going off around here but not as many as last Saturday.

  • Sorry it'll be more expensive,  Rusty. As you say, At least when it's done your car will pass the M.O.T.- they are stricter these days about it. Years ago  before M.O.T.s it wasn't unusual to hear that people almost fell out of their cars as they rusted underneath!

We have the main News channels here (& not much else). It all about the state of things in the USA but does sound as if its going to be a long time before we know a result.

  • Oh, LINDY! That place where you are staying is absolutely stunning. You and your OH were under so much stress for a long time. I'm so very, very happy that your holiday seems to be unfolding well. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

  • All 3 BBC radio stations I usually listen to during the night are carrying the same programming! I can’t escape! Goodness knows what it is like for you folks over the pond. It is already very tense and no results have been declared yet. Thinking of you.

  • ANNETTE: Oh my stars! You have been busy!!! You'd better schedule some time for a long nap!

I do hope you can get a good price for the PV house. With the housing market the way it is, I wouldn't accept any low-ball offers, even if the market isn't as hot in that area. But what do I know!? Good luck.

  • RUSTY: Thank you for your very kind caring about us. I appreciate it. The polls close earlier in Indiana than in most states, and it has just been called for Trump. Not surprising, because Indiana is now a far-right Republican state. I voted by mail-in ballot, because I didn't want to cope with people.

  • Well, my plans changed. I didn't go for my blood labs or stock up on groceries.

Because the election is so razer-thin close, I anticipate that the winner of the  presidential race won't be official right away. Thus, it's likely that any civil unrest won't peak until the end of the week.

My friends in Indianapolis have decided to leave the country. They are picking me up here, and I will house-sit and dog-sit for them in their home in a quiet (I hope) Indianapolis suburb, while they fly out from Indianapolis International Airport and spend a few days of vacation at a small Caribbean resort.

They are arriving here early in the day, and we will hit the gas and drive as fast as possible to get out of this area and off the roads.

Luckily, the autumn rains arrived yesterday, so the fire risk is no longer so elevated here on my patch. I'm not so worried about my house catching fire if tensions worsen.

Hello to all. Thanks for your caring.

AQ: I'm so very sorry your OH has fallen again. So much stress for you. Wish I could help.

  • Thanks Diane. Well, what do you think now? I listened through the night. It looks very clear cut doesn’t it? I can’t believe it!

  • Me too, RUSTY. I m lost for words.....
