Since the 9th May, a dark, unringed male intruder (with a distinctive large pupil in his right eye and who the team at Lowes has estimated to be 2-3 years of age) has been a regular visitor to the nest. The Pale Male, who had ‘destroyed’ the three eggs on the 7th/8th May, has not been seen on camera again and it was mentioned that this new young male had chased him from the area.
He has delivered many small fish ‘gifts’ (three in one day on a couple of occasions) and a sizable larger one to NC0 - her calls expressed how grateful she was - but that did not stop her from catching her own huge meal on the 23rd May, to satisfy her appetite. His many mating attempts have so far been rejected by NC0 though this has not put him off from making continuous efforts. The Dark Intruder, as named by staff in the hides on the reserve, is showing great nest building skills - bringing in a multitude of various-sized sticks and soft nesting material.
Although the relationship is in its early stages, NC0 appears to have accepted him as a 'potential' future mate and they have been observed working as a team to defend the nest against seen, and unseen, intruders - all encouraging signs for the beginning of a possible new chapter here at Loch of the Lowes.

Thanks for trying anyway Scylla. From what you say, I think I’ll go with my first thoughts of her being an intruder.
19.22 the male came to the nest with the thinnest of small sticks. He looked around then left about a minute later.
19.46 a bird flew out from the trees and headed to the split birch. A crow cawed at the same time.
21.40 It was still there almost 2 hours later. It then left to fly into the nearby trees.
I haven’t seen NC0 on the nest from my scroll back unless she’s had a fleeting visit I’ve missed.

I'm shocked to see you say that, Wendy! The only time I've ever seen snaps not showing up (which those 2 do, for me) is with gifs.
However, when I cllick on either of those snaps to open them in their own "screen", the new screen opens up but no snap will appear. Yet another glitch in the new system we'e been lumbered with. I still often get quotes when I click Reply to do a new post.
Let's see if they'll post via Imgur.com.
Not NC0 ???
NC):
Looking at the links before posting, it's not looking hopeful :(((
EDIT
Well they will open fully in Imgur when clicked on.
It's weird that there is any problem, they're just normal Greenshot screenshots, no tarting up whatsoever.

Until the visit by DM that you've shown, the only other bird I spied was the Raven, once in the afternoon well before 16:00.
Good to see the snaps that were missing Scylla but I can't help with ID's, just haven't studied them enough and don't have the space to save images!

Our NC0 is still around today.
20.16 The male flew to the nest with a long thin licheny stick.
A bird can be seen sitting on the split birch.
It leaves, flying over the water to approach the nest.
The male gets into mantling position as NC0 lands. She vocalises but not too loudly.
She has a wee squint to see if there’s a fish.
NC0 has continued to vocalise
The male flies off.
NC0 stays on for a short while longer, looking around. She vocalises louder asking for fish.
NC0 then leaves
20.20 She doubles back and comes towards the nest
and lands on the cam pole.
You are a star, GLIDER
I'm just checking in hoping I can pack up - and you've saved the day.
Aww, you’re welcome. Glad to help Scylla.
The live stream is currently down, I took this from the stream that ended about 35 minutes ago. All the more complicated in working out times! Approximately 12.00 NC0 arrived with a twiggy stick.
She placed it to one side
then the other.
The male soon joined her.
NC0 vocalised quietly.
The male left after a minute or two, flying downwards.
NC0 stayed on. She looked quite relaxed. Did some preening.
Moved the stick again.
She was there for an hour so left at approximately 13.00.

I've got it on auto-pickup, so here's a half-hour session from very early morning - slideshow:
Oh my goodness, DM has excelled himself - I can't do a snap of this fish, or piece of - because it's invisible to the naked eye
I think that NC0 was back within about 5 minutes, waiting for the main course which surely must be due
She waited in vain for 50 minutes, flew off when there was no response to her calls:
The above events cover up to just before 10:00.

Next comes GLIDER's coverage above, which ended at 14:10-ish.
HOWEVER !!!
An hour later, DM with stick:
10 mins later NC0 flew in, he flew off then shel flew off.
A bit after 18:00 DM seemed to have something tiny in his talons and NC0 flew in hopefully, but there was nothing for her and he flew off in shame and she soon flew off too, and that was the last either was seen for the day.
