Since the 9th May, a dark, unringed male intruder (with a distinctive large pupil in his right eye and who the team at Lowes has estimated to be 2-3 years of age) has been a regular visitor to the nest. The Pale Male, who had ‘destroyed’ the three eggs on the 7th/8th May, has not been seen on camera again and it was mentioned that this new young male had chased him from the area.
He has delivered many small fish ‘gifts’ (three in one day on a couple of occasions) and a sizable larger one to NC0 - her calls expressed how grateful she was - but that did not stop her from catching her own huge meal on the 23rd May, to satisfy her appetite. His many mating attempts have so far been rejected by NC0 though this has not put him off from making continuous efforts. The Dark Intruder, as named by staff in the hides on the reserve, is showing great nest building skills - bringing in a multitude of various-sized sticks and soft nesting material.
Although the relationship is in its early stages, NC0 appears to have accepted him as a 'potential' future mate and they have been observed working as a team to defend the nest against seen, and unseen, intruders - all encouraging signs for the beginning of a possible new chapter here at Loch of the Lowes.

It’s so NC0!
Hi Glider,
No sooner had NC0 swallowed the fish tail, she turned to see the male nibbling at the new fish - she was having none of that! lol
New YT URL from 21:35
NC0 was on the birch at the start of the new streaming
She made a few calls before leaving at 21:52ish

Morning All,
The male delivered a small headless fish to NC0 at 6:12
In her beak here
He flew off to the birch very soon after
NC0 remained on the nest to eat her small breakfish
Dark male seems to be shaping up. Praying for them to have safe journeys and come back.
.
I see that the new male has been given an official name:
Perhaps they're holding off till next season to call him LM24/25 ???
IMAGICAT
Hi Scylla,
Lowes have called him the Dark Intruder (DI) since he showed up on the scene (to differentiate him from the Pale Male). When he returns next season, and together with NC0 produce eggs, that's when, I'd imagine, he will then be named LM24 - the year he arrived? Laddie was given his LM12 status, I assume, because he and Lady bred - producing a sole chick from three eggs laid (the other two eggs DNH) - in 2012
As Julie has said, praying for them to have safe journeys to and from their migrations.
As far as I can tell, the male was last on the nest at 13:27 (he'd brought 2 sticks in quick succession)
On leaving, he flew off down the inlet
NC0 has been on and off the nest this afternoon, a couple of occasions flying off around the birch corner.
At present, 18:04, she is in the midst of a preening session (having returned at 17:47)
Edit: She flew off at 18:12
She flew high, out of cam view, after this pic
There were no more visits to the nest

Morning All
It's been extremely quiet at the nest....
The male landed at 4:40 with a possible small stick. He was quiet, no calling heard from NC0
It was a very long visit and he spent the majority of his time at the back of the nest, looking around and waiting
Finally flying off to the right at 5:06
Apart from a crow popping on and off the nest, it has remained ENS - no sign of NC0
