Asha & Brodie

The partnership has matured this season, with Asha continuing her good female role (and she loves nest-building) and Brodie being more reliable, both fishing and incubating.

The pair have fought their way thru all kinds of nasty weather - snow, wind and rain - and intruders, including the dreaded KL5 Klive, have been a nuisance but not dangerous...

so far.

EDIT

********

Sadly, the month of May heralded irresistible aggression from BlueKL5 "Klive", who had ruined the end of last season for the 2 juvies.

Within the first 2 days Klive had driven Brodie from the area (tho Brodie did return a couple of times to dive-bomb Klive, to no effect) and destroyed the eggs.  He commenced to woo Asha clumsily, selfishly and inappropriately, as can be seen from the following pages.

IMAGICAT

  • .

05:38 - Asha eventually flew from the perch.

    07:34 - Back again.

    08:01 - Away again.

I couldn't see anyone else in the background on either cam,, up to about 09:30.

    IMAGICAT

  • In your June 2 video of the intruder, good catch Scylla about Asha landing on the old nest perch at 22:06.  I missed that.

  • June 4.  Intruder.  Lots of action today.

12:23  Asha on dead tree eating a fish (see ptz).

14:57:44  Looks like another O flies by.

15:24  Asha flies off with her fish and lands on a branch on the old nest (see ptz at 15:25).

15:26  PTZ cam pans over to another tree nearby Asha and there is an unringed male (URM) on it with his own fish. Asha remains on her tree branch eating her fish. KL5 not in sight. The URM continues to eat his fish. The fish looks to be very old and well baked.

15:28 to 16:34 the PTZ pans back and forth multiple times between the URM and  Asha. Below is Asha with her fish.

16:34 URM flies off. Fish is all gone.

16:35 PTZ picks him up on another dead tree.

16:36 URM is off and lands on the nest cam perch at 16:37.

16:38 He floats down to the nest

16:39 URM flies off from the nest and circles above Asha on a tree in the distance and then flies off.

16:42:26 Asha on the tree flies off and lands on top of the totem pole.

16:44 URM lands on dead tree by the tower.

16:49 He takes off. Meanwhile Asha is still on the totem pole with her fish.

16:55 The ptz cam pans and finds the URM on tree by the tower.

16:57 URM flies off and lands on the nest cam perch.

17:10 URM flies off from the perch one min later and lands on the nest.

    To be continued

  • 17:12 URM takes off from the nest as Asha lands on it with her fish. He hovers over Asha and then takes off.

17:13 He hovers again over Asha and lands on the cam perch. She flaps him off.

17:16:12 The ptz cam finds KL5 on a branch with his own big fish.

17:19:41 URM lands on the cam perch again while Asha is still on the nest.

17:19:49 KL5 flies in and lands on the nest with his fish. KL5 is there with Asha.

17:19:55 Asha flaps at KL5 to do something about the URM on the cam perch (aww, sweet memories of what she used to do to Brodie). The commotion dislodged URM from the perch and he flies off.

17:20 KL5 flies off with his fish. (After Asha gave it the old college try to steal it.)

17:24 Asha flies off with her fish and lands on a tree in the distance.

17:26 Asha flies off from the distant tree to the totem pole.

17:33 Asha on the totem pole. She still has her fish.

17:44:54 URM lands briefly on the nest and takes off.

17:45 KL5 flies in to land on the nest with his fish still in talons. He mantles.

17:48 KL5 flies off.  Asha has remained on the totem pole.

17:58:16 KL5 is back on the nest with his fish. He mantles and alarm calls. Another O (probably the URM) flies by over the nest. Asha is still on the totem pole.

17:58:52 KL5 flies off with his fish (that by now has racked up 1 million Air Miles.).

18:34:52 KL5 lands on old nest branch.  Asha is still on the totem pole.

21:06 Asha flies to the nest with the remains of her fish.  KL5 remains on the branch.

  • 21:29 KL5 flies from the branch to the nest.  He has the remains of his fish.  Asha is on the nest.

21:29:31  Asha dives for the fish.  KL5 releases it. And she flies off with it.

21:29:58  Asha lands on a tree in the distance (ptz).

21:32:19 KL5 flies off with the remains of a fish that was buried in the nest.  Probably the one left behind by Asha.

21:32:36  KL5 flies from the nest.  He has the remains of the fish.  He flies towards Asha on her branch but swerves at the last second and flies to another tree (ptz).

21:37:47  KL5 flies off out of camera range.

21:48:30  Asha flies off out of camera range.

    The end.
