(I am starting a new thread for April because, for sad personal reasons, Korky cannot be with us until further notice so the March title cannot be edited.)
Please read Korky's comprehensive March 2024 intro.
Asha and Brodie
Last year they arrived on 04 and 14 April respectively.
The end of the 2023 season was marred by the aggressive intrusion of BlueKL5 "Klive" (thank you, Fergus). We have no idea if the 2 youngsters were fit to migrate.
We haven't heard anything from HQ but it appears that the cams are not quite ready, despite snaps being posted to Facebook 10 days ago together with a query about the lack of IR for the third year in a row - and the streaming is unsteady and unreliable. When LG issued a warning about a delay to the opening of the season, it seemed to refer only to the Visitor Centre.
The PTZ now
Quote RSPB YT Channel: When the Loch Garten Nature Centre opens on April 15th, this camera is controlled by the centre staff during work hours, so please be gracious if you find it staring at an empty tree! The birds react quicker than the staff are sometimes able.

Brodie, IMHO:

What would we do without you?! (I've rounded the time, hope that's forgivable!)
Proving our point that we need the campost to be included in the PTZ view!
21 April
Continuing from yesterday, a rainy nght - Asha stayed on the nest, watchful at times:
It looked doubtful for some seconds, but the first mating attempt of the day was an Ess !!! ... which I trust CANUCK will confirm
Good Morning EJFan
Thank you so much for your detailed response illuminating the life and trials of being an Osprey. Love the idea of them seeking a divorce! Ultimately a nest that produces healthy chicks is a success and nature doesn't mind how that comes about. Fascinating though.
I think we may have an egg! About 10.45 i think I spotted one!
1st egg on the nest

Terrific news and a great snap, RICHARD, thank you !!!
What a comparatively inactive labour that was! Poor Asha is soaking wet, too. I'm not sure whether Brodie really registered the egg when he brought the unwanted fish - he certainly didn't want to interfere.
I had come here to "announce" that I was packing up when I saw Richard's egg alert - am definitely packing up now. These videos where the action is so very "subtle" are the worst!
Many thanks for persevering Scylla to furnish us & the record with this great footage ...

Scylla is the most dedicated poster I know. 3 cheers yet again for her dedication!
16:14 Brodie incubates for the first time. He was much better at it this year. Last year he just stood over the eggs!! He had no idea what to do! This year it only took him a few seconds to figure it out, although he kept changing position. At 16:30 Asha returned for the changeover.
I absolutely agree. What an incredible dedication!! And incredible technical skill too to be able to put together all the vides and screen shots.
