OFF-SEASON 2023-24 - FEEDERS & OTHER CRITTER CAMS

Continuing THOMO's LG feeder, and including other cams as per title.

First, some LG feeder snaps & vids from the past couple of days.

Female & male GSWs, joined up by trickery - you may notice that the peanut tube is misshapen Stuck out tongue winking eye

Nasty Great Coal Tit:

No trickery for the 2 Blue Tits:

Now for the torture - I just cannot figure out Greenfinch or female Chaffinch:

This was in flight so has had to be sharpened a lot:

Little vid:

No mistaking the evening Crestie!

  • Mojave

The Cooper's Hawk went after and missed two potential victims:

Yesterday Coal Tits dominated by sheer numbers, with Great and Blue less numerous, GSW Individuals M&F were very prevalent, just one Chaffie seen.

This morning a Crestie was in early.

  • Just noticed the skeleton in his festive hat Grinning

He was acquired for Hallowe'en and is having to earn his keep.

A Gray/Canada Jay took away several beakfuls of the treats that no-one else seems to want.  At 10:05, moments after the Jay's latest visit, Tammie cleaned off and refreshed the tray - minus the golden treats, I don't suppose she realised they had a fan.

    Sweet Scottish Terrier(?) passes by:

Evening Crestie - it had just fought off a Coat Tit!

    15 December

The Coal Tit started early and had the feeder all to itself for several minutes!

    Mojave

Another failed Hawk swoop - I'm pretty sure yesterday's was the Cooper's, but can't say this one is not the Sharp-shinned.  Note the Gambel's Quail with the fascinator Blue heart

  • I've been all night trying to do a multi-GSW snap for TREVOR - to let him know we are thinking of him and wishing him well - no more colds/flu!  (My brother brought home a beauty which I've managed to avoid.)

Anyway, please put on yer best rose-tinted - tho WENDY won't need to, given recent form Stuck out tongue winking eyePurple heart

    .

A Crestie was last in, it had 5 minutes all alone - according to the timeline it flew at 16:00, but a couple of minutes later nightcam came on - surely the clock must be wrong ??? ???

  • Oh Wow, that's absolutely magnificent Scylla ! ! Terrific.  And lovely candy cane type colours which makes it so Christmassy. An altogether wonderful photo of GSWs, so well done.

I didn't know you were so poorly Trevor, and I do hope you are pulling through now and feeling somewhat better. Thoughts of hot toddies to youl

  • Get better TREVOR! I was chagrined to learn of everyone’s maladies yet gratified to learn I was not the only one suffering, I am still just getting over an absolutely evil virus (not Covid) that a week later still has me hacking and blowing with a raw nose. But I am on the comeback trail and lonely for my birdie friends. So here I am.

Nice to see SCYLLA is still prevailing despite tooth issues and has CIRRUS for company. Pray And lovely to see Wendy here helping hold down the fort.

Tomorrow I am going to attempt to go on the annual Christmas Bird Count, or as much as I can manage. It requires being up and out at 5 am for the owling portion of the count. Then we three will throw down a quick brekkie before proceeding onto day birds. Now, I know next to nuthin about birds other than osprey and ravens, so I’m depending on my two buddies to help, one a naturalist and the other an amateur naturalist, both birders. I hope I don’t scare the owls if I have a coughing fit. Confounded
