Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 20 August 2023

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Have a good week, all!

  • Good morning – Saturday. Looks as if we are back to some normal chat on this thread!

Can’t say the same at home – both J and I had a really bad night, so OH was awake for both of us. Luckily, we got a few hours sleep towards morning and I have woken reasonably alert, with some energy to start the day. OH is busy finishing a job he abandoned last evening when I realised he was almost asleep on his feet trying to get things done. J has not yet emerged from his bed.

LINDA – well done with the tomatoes. Glad you enjoyed the first day there and the Welsh Heritage Centre.

DIBNLIB – pleased the opening went well – sounds a very worthwhile project. Will you two continue to be involved?

CLARE – a wonderful Beastie – glad you had a good trip.

I am now going to try to tidy my computer folders so everything is in a sensible order for the next magazine! I had some “help” from OH this time, and it has left me very muddled as his file management logic (if there is any) is so different from mine!
  • Clare. I knew you would have taken great photos of the beastie!!! Quite a creature!!! Great to see. I am so pleased you had a good visit to Minsmere. The sun has come out here so I have risked hanging out a line of washing. I am not going anywhere so I can rush out and rescue it if it starts raining again.
Dibnlib - I am also really pleased that the weather was kind for the opening of the Haven. It sounds like a great place.
Lindy - sounds like you had a good morning yesterday. Glad you got to enjoy the lovely views.
OG - congratulations on completing the church magazine. My sister does the one for her church and I know how much time and effort she puts into it. She always gives me a copy. I think it is a shame that your physio is not being replaced. You seem to have been really pleased with what he had been able to do for you. Is it a funding issue? I hope your manage to keep gaining in confidence though,
  • Hi all - finally back home in Suffolk. arrived about 8pm last night.  I love my Grandchildren dearly but I am shattered and was looking forward to staying put for a week or so but I am needed back in London from Tuesday to Thursday. DIL works for NHS and does 3 x 12 hour shifts so its hard for them to work childcare.

Been reading all the news and looking at the photos - Clare I loved the cricket and am planning on getting over to Minsmere very soon.

Hope those with ailments or unreasonable weather get some respite.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  • OG Hope you get a better nights sleep tonight.

Thanks to both OG and Rusty on their comments about "The Haven" OH and I are not regular volunteers but will help out whenever we are asked to. There is talk about another fundraiser at the end of September so we await the call up!!

HARELADY Your family must be so happy you are able to help out.
  • CLARE We looked up that cricket then got our ruler out to see what 7 cm looked like.....wow! What a shame we won't see one up here.

It was enormous.  Not quite as big as one of those legendary dog-sized gulls but still big.

True ..... but think about all the stuff you have up there that we don't get.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Thanks for that reminder CLARE. We are very lucky here. I wouldn't swap our red squirrels for anything else found in the UK.
  • Not to mention the golden eagles, hooded crows, mountain hares, ptarmigan ........ hmmmmmm. We really must make it back to Scotland in the not too distant future.

  • That's funny because I have always pictured you as petite but tough!

My height is at least bigger than my waistline but then I am 6 feet tall.  I tower over poor old Limpy.
