Mari first, (16.22) followed by big sister, Dilys 4 minutes later. (16.26) (55 and 57 days old respectively)
Today 1 August - Dilys is 66 days old and Mari is 64 days old.
It has been a wonderful month for this family. A plentiful supply of fish saw the chicks grow quickly into juvenile ospreys. As did the youngsters of last year, these two took turns to feed and with LM6 fishing as well now, they have often had a fish each at the same time. Mari, has turned out to be the faster developer of the two, practising fishing off various perches on 30 July (aged 63 days old) and on 31 July she started taking the fish off the nest to eat.
The next few weeks will see Dilys and Mari practise and hone their skills in preparation for becoming independent birds and tackling their long migration ahead of them.

You’re welcome Wendy. It is a fabulous nest to follow. Yes, it is a long wait until next Spring.
I know that LJ2 overwinters in The Gambia but it’s not known where LM6 spends her time, It would be wonderful if there are any sightings of any of our birds, including KA9 Gelert and X6 Olwen (22), KA5 Roli (19) who likes to intrude Clywedog! and Z9 Luned (18) over the coming months,

Seemingly, LJ2 was listed as a female initially on the UK Ospreys website. Well we know he’s definitely a male! Superdad!
Thank you Glider for your fantastic coverage throughout the season. It has been a lovely nest to follow and given you much enjoyment which you have shared with us. And what a brilliant summary to close 2023 for as well as the facts, it just oozes your dedication and affection for this nest. Thank you
Aw thanks Karen, you’re very welcome. It is indeed a great nest to follow (as is “yours” at Manton.) I took an interest here as in 2022 they were two young birds who returned after adversity and were attempting to raise a family for the first time and look how well they have done. I hope they have many successful years ahead.
Brenig’s post on FB today about the departure of our ospreys.
Brenig posted this year’s timeline on FB today.
Sincere appreciation and thanks (((GLIDER)))

You’re most welcome Scylla. It’s one of the easier nests to watch (less dramatic) and I hope it stays that way!
North Wales Wildlife Trust posted a few short videos of Osprey moments on the nest this year on their YouTube site.

Just thought I would flag up a couple of things for interest. There are some posts on the Brenig Osprey Project Facebook page with camera trap images and videos of voles, foxes and a family of otters. There is also an appeal for additional viewing equipment. The osprey watchpoint has a new verandah which will be a better base for scopes. There is a volunteer recruitment event at Llyn Brenig on 25 February if anyone in the region wants to join the merry band. All details at www.facebook.com/brenigospreyproject
