Chicks fledged 23 July

Today 1 August - Dilys is 66 days old and Mari is 64 days old.

It has been a wonderful month for this family. A plentiful supply of fish saw the chicks grow quickly into juvenile ospreys. As did the youngsters of last year, these two took turns to feed and with LM6 fishing as well now, they have often had a fish each at the same time. Mari, has turned out to be the faster developer of the two, practising fishing off various perches on 30 July (aged 63 days old) and on 31 July she started taking the fish off the nest to eat.

The next few weeks will see Dilys and Mari practise and hone their skills in preparation for becoming independent birds and tackling their long migration ahead of them.

  • It looks like LM6 and Mari may have left.

LM6 was last seen on the preening perch at 08.59 with Mari. She gave one last look towards the camera

then flew off down over the water

heading in this direction then disappeared out of view.

  • Mari was last seen on the preening perch at 14.33. She’d been there an hour.

Not long after she arrived the cam operator started looking around the area. I wonder if they were looking for LM6?

That looks more like Dilys than LM6

13.53 Mari was very quiet, just sitting looking all around

    13.57 spotting fish

13.59 She stared in this direction a lot

    14.29

14.33 One last half turn of the head

    And off she went

She flew out of view of the camera.

  • Sunday 27;August

Good morning Grinning It’s so quiet here. 06.54 Dilys stretched her wings on the nest perch.

She flew to the tall tree

    Magnified

    07.14

07.30 She stayed there for just over half an hour sitting very quietly.

    07.41 Dilys left the tree

07.41 and flew to the nest

she was only there for a few seconds, I nearly missed her visit.

  • 09.18 Dilys returned to the nest. Her calling could be heard off nest beforehand.

Something caught her eye down in the water

    09.19

     E
    She tracked it

    09.19 Then took off

    flying downwards.

  • 10.35 Dilys could be heard calling in the background and lands on the nest.

    10.36

10.38 Not a long stay, she soon departs to the perch.

  • 13.30 Dilys flew onto the nest screaming and looking upwards.

13.32 An Osprey flew over the water

It then flew past the nest

    13.34

13.53 Seems to have quietened down. Dilys left

  • Looking at the PTZ camera, they were mobile around the area at the time of Dilys landing on the nest screaming.

They found her on the tall tree. She was looking upwards. (The clocks are out of sinc)

    13.32

    She started flapping and calling.

She flew to the nest continuing to flap and call.

    13.34 An Osprey flew overhead

It then flew past the corner of the screen. (Magnified)

The camera then moved to the preening perch and it was LJ2.

The way Dilys was reacting, I thought an intruder had been around!

  • Dilys later joined her dad just before 14.00.

    13.56

    14.00

    14.32 LJ2 left

  • 15.16 Dilys stayed on the preening perch. LJ2 joined her. He should’ve brought his ear defenders!!

She opened her beak and never stopped!

    Get me a fish dad!

    15.17

    15.17 LJ2 soon left

The cam followed him to the nest perch.

    15.23

  • Dilys had been back on the nest fish calling but it wasn’t until her visit at 19.12 when LJ2 finally arrived with a fish. Her first and probably only one of the day.

    She quickly took it.

    19.14

    19.20

    19.34

19.38 She moves to the nest edge

20.15 Still there, contemplating what next.
