Laddie had a record breaking fish day on the 15th June, when he brought ELEVEN of them to the nest for NC0 and the chicks to dine on - amazing!

As the two chicks grew, it was clearly obvious - with the difference in size - that #1 was a female and #2 a male, this being confirmed at their ringing on the 22nd June.

NC0 began fishing for the first time this season on the 30th June, with TWO successful catches in one day. Hopefully, both she and Laddie will continue to bring plenty of fish for their growing youngsters to enjoy in a now, harmonious manner.

Fingers firmly crossed for better news tomorrow! Has been a worrying and sad week in the Osprey world!

    Hear, hear!

It's been an awful day for software crashes - I got 09:50-15:50 downloaded and some more from YT rollback - I haven't been able to ID individuals, but at least it's something from this unusual day for posterity:

Thanks so very much for the superb video, Scylla! Kissing heart

  • Morning All,

8:08 PF5 fish calling on the perch. I don't know where PF4 is but she has been about this morning

8:10 Now resting on the nest

I wonder if the female intruder yesterday was Glaslyn hatched 8C who intruded here back in April?

I have to go to work. BBL

  • No fish deliveries as far as I can tell on scroll back

At 12:53, PF5 was on the birch

He then flew low behind the birch when, I assume, PF4 came into view and there was a chase

They both headed low behind it

13:15 PF5 is on the nest after arriving back at 13:04

13:18 Calling for fish. Let's hope Laddie (or NC0) is around

  • 17:10  PF5 on the nest perch. I haven't found any fish deliveries...

A concerned person made this comment on Fb this morning: 'This morning something is going on at the nest. Thought I heard gun shot and the chicks were vocal and also sounded like an adult in distress. Hope someone goes out there to do a welfare check.'

Lowes replied 56 minutes ago: The youngsters are flying around, chasing each other, shouting for food, harassing Dad, who has spent much of the day defending the area from an unringed intruder and preening. There is a lot that happens off camera that can be observed from the hides and then of course action that we are not privvy to further afield. Rest assured the chicks are very vocal, and flying well, as is LM12.'

  • 19:33 Fish for PF5 from Laddie!!!!!

Laddie flew off. Where's the fish?

Ahh, it was in PF5's left talons!

Calls could be heard off nest

    Who was approaching?

It was PF4 who then dive bombed him

PF4 flew off to the left

    PF5 guarding his fish

    Swallowing his first bite

    Tucking in

His meal was all gone at 19:52

  • Wow, poor Laddie, he was just about mugged for that fish.
It's only small, but at least it's a fish, I was getting really worried.
PF5 was certainly noisy when it arrived.

  • Mind you, looking at PF5 eating the fish it's actually bigger than it looked at first.

  • So pleased for this nest. Keep it up Daddio!

He literally jumped up at Laddie as he was so eager to take the fish from him! I was getting worried too, PF5's demeanor (being hunched over at times today) gave me cause for concern.

Laddie appeared to be fully cropped, I thought?

It took him just under 20 minutes to eat it, bearing in mind that he had to protect the fish from his sister, initially

Strange that PF4 didn't actually land on the nest to make a claim
