EDITEDI thought we should have a new thread to record the development of the two chicks who hatched successfully at Clywedog this year. UPDATE. One of the chicks was killed in an attempted goshawk predation on 18 July 2023.
The introduction to the nest and happenings between March and June 2023 on this Thread©
5F Seren, the female who has been here since 2020, returned from migration on 25 March 2023. The unringed Dylan, the male since 2016, returmed two days later. Eggs were laid on 13 April, 16 April and 19 April. The first egg hatched on 20 May, and the second egg 2 days after that. The third egg has not hatched and will not do so now.
A highlight was the visit on 12 May from 496, the only chick which fledged from this nest in 2021.
Carnyx Wild provide video streams; the current stream is available here. The link to the feed changes every 12 hours. There should be 2 cameras, but one has not been streamed so far this season due to condensation in the lens; it is hoped this may be changed when the chicks are ringed.
Other links to the Facebook page and John Williams blog are on the introduction to the first thread above.
Grateful thanks to those who are gifted enough to record images and videos from this lovely, mainly tranquil, scene.
UPDATE This thread will be used to record updates on this nest and the Llyn Clywedog area before the start of the 2024 season.
All images are © Carnyx Wild and NRW.
Many thanks for this very pertinent info AG
Unknown said:The O2 4G signal seems to have failed. John has observed this morning that one juvenile was flying with Dylan and the other was on the high perch, so we have to assume that 8B2 has fledged.
Unknown said:EDIT If he hadn't gone before he went at 08.09. Carnyx have got the nest camera working at low resolution for the time being.
Oh no!
It didn't occur to me there'd be any news here as you're on hols, AG - and I'm afraid I've done a "fledge" video - entailing much angst and labour - for the evening. I wonder if I can alter it on YouTube, in the meantime here's the incorrect video
EDIT
They're taking the first few seconds off the above but say it may take hours.

I can't see that he went before. Not a patch on my masterpiece above, with no close-up and no perch cam until the afternoon. Heyho.
IMAGICAT
They caught my eye just now so I slid the perch inside the recording frame of the nest:
Just for the record - I've not been able to keep up this morning and since I logged on the perch and nest have been empty! Until just now, when Seren appeared on the perch and now one of the juvies is on the nest.
11 July
17:22-ish An Osprey flew over and Dylan landed on nest (with some fish?) to defend, he was soon joined by Seren and then he was free to give chase... the incident petered out but later Seren had to defend again and this lasted nearly 40 minutes:
The intruder could occasionally be seen flying overhead but there was such a glare in the sky, any birds were mostly whited out - I haven't altered anything:
Seren flew off calling (not sounding like alarm calls) @ 19:41.
Two juvies waiting for supper:
They didn't have long to wait - Seren stood by ready to assist but once again flew off calling.
Must have been 8B2 sleeping on the nest - one of those curly insects flew by:
Just got "502 Bad Gateway" but post not lost.
12 July
04:21
Mum and sib popped in briefly:
Thank you Scylla. I loved the framed photos in particular
12-13 Overnight - Seren not bovvered by the weather, she'd just woken from a tucked sleep thru hours of it - then the rain subsided:
.
The cams are currently mega-buffering... now resolved into a frozen coloured pic with a juve and Seren on the perch.
15 July
Rain.
Seren is on the perch, a juvie landed on the nest @ 05:01 but only stayed a couple of minutes.
Looks like two angels having a conversation ! thanks Scylla
