Link to JULY 2022
Our Osprey family taken on 7th July, 2022.
Our chicks on 31st July, 2022. Olwen flying in to join her family.
This was a new nest erected for 2022 season to replace the one vandalised in 2021 after this pair and just laid their first egg.
Our male, blue LJ2 (2018 South Argyll) arrived on 6th April 2022.
Our female, blue LM6 (2018 Menteith, Stirling) arrived on 10th April 2022.
This is our young adult osprey pair’s first successful breeding season.
First egg 25th April. Second egg 28th April. Third egg 1st May.
Eggs hatched 1st June, 3rd June, 5th June (3rd chick died on day of hatching)
Chicks ringed ringed 4th July, chick #1 blue X6 female, chick #2 blue KA9 male.

8th July, it was noticed LM6’s blue darvic ring had split and fallen off her leg onto the nest on 7th July. She now only has a silver BTO ring on her right leg.
The first born chick, X6/Olwen fledged at 55 days old at 12.45 on 26th July.
The second born chick KA9/Gelert fledged at 55 days old at 07.29 on 28th July.

Around 09.34 Olwen lands on the nest. She is there briefly when she raises her wings to flap. An Osprey is incoming. The adult bird lands on the perch. Olwen starts mantling.
It’s tricky to see who the adult is because of distance. Looks like a white breast - LJ2? but I don’t know if there’s a blue darvic ring on the left leg?
The adult bird settles and starts preening. Sounds like LM6 is on the cam post screaming. Is it intruder calling?Olwen is looking behind and then up. The screaming continues, you can hear the cam post shudder.
.
Olwen settles but flies off within a couple of minutes. All is quiet. The adult bird carries on preening for about 20 minutes before leaving.
Maybe it is LJ2.
Today Olwen is 88 days old.
Around 11.24 Olwen arrives on the nest, leaves, returns and is there for over 10 minutes fish calling with no success.
Took me a while to find it without a timestamp.. but I guess you'd appreciate a video of the dive
(sometimes a bit glitchy, but somehow the replay of the cam is not working properly for me)

Bart that is fabulous, thank you so much. This webcam is always glitchy, stuttery, freezes and sometimes leaves imprints of wings etc after an Osprey has flown! I guess I’ve just become used to it over the course of watching it this year! I don’t think the Wi-Fi is good in the area.
All of my times are approximate with there being no timestamp.
12.05 Olwen arrives back on the nest fish calling. She stays around 15 minutes.
She stays within the area off cam fish calling and still is as I type! 14.13
At last, food for Olwen! Just before 15.00 LM6 lands on the nest, Olwen immediately follows from a nearby perch.
Olwen takes the half eaten fish from LM6
and mantles over it, calling.
Olwen leaves the nest with her fish at 15.06
and about 5 minutes later, she returns fishless. Oh no, after waiting all that time to be fed, she drops her meal.
️
Guess who’s still on the nest now asking mum for fish!
Olwen stayed on the nest and LM6 on the perch for most of the time until LJ2 arrived. However, Olwen left for a short spell and came back with damp feathers around her neck area.
She must’ve been diving again and has picked up a minor injury under her wing.
Around 17.33 LJ2 arrived with a small headless fish
which Olwen quickly took from him.
She mantled over the fish, calling loudly.
Olwen, mum and dad together.
LJ2 is looking in good shape.
