Our Osprey family taken on 7th July, 2022.
Our chicks on 31st July, 2022. Olwen flying in to join her family.
This was a new nest erected for 2022 season to replace the one vandalised in 2021 after this pair and just laid their first egg.
Our male, blue LJ2 (2018 South Argyll) arrived on 6th April 2022.
Our female, blue LM6 (2018 Menteith, Stirling) arrived on 10th April 2022.
This is our young adult osprey pair’s first successful breeding season.
First egg 25th April. Second egg 28th April. Third egg 1st May.
Eggs hatched 1st June, 3rd June, 5th June (3rd chick died on day of hatching)
Chicks ringed ringed 4th July, chick #1 blue X6 female, chick #2 blue KA9 male.
Chicks named 7th July - X6 Olwen - KA9 Gelert as chosen by public vote on Brenig Facebook.
8th July, it was noticed LM6’s blue darvic ring had split and fallen off her leg onto the nest on 7th July. She now only has a silver BTO ring on her right leg.
The first born chick, X6/Olwen fledged at 55 days old at 12.45 on 26th July.
The second born chick KA9/Gelert fledged at 55 days old at 07.29 on 28th July.
Today on 1st August, the chicks are 61 and 59 days old respectively.

Tuesday, 16th August
Good afternoon. Looks like it was a misty morning on the nest. Just after 08.00, the camera was showing an empty nest then suddenly LM6, Olwen and Gelert were all standing there, Olwen with a good sized fish under her talons,
Olwen started eating the fish on the nest
before leaving with it just under half an hour later.
Gelert was soon back on the nest fish calling. Good to have the sound on the nest back again.
He was on and off all morning
and then around 12,30, Gelert was so excited when he saw LJ2 flying in from over the water
unfortunately carrying just a large stick! Poor Gelert, he continued fish calling and LJ2 left soon after.
Luckily, Mum had been listening to his calls and arrived with a very lively fish around 12.46.
Gelert was delighted, quickly taking the fish from LM6’s talons.
LM6 left, followed by Gelert a few minutes later with his fish. Our chicks/juveniles are so grown up now since live stream resumed, taking their fish off nest to eat!
14.28 LJ2 brings Gelert another stick!
Before returning with a small fish about 20 minutes later (14.49)
when Gelert tries to grab the fish, he gets a hold of LJ2’s leg instead.
LJ2 gives a “Let go” call and Gelert obliged.
LJ2 immediately flew off. Gelert stayed for a few more minutes before taking his fish into the forest area.

Aw, you’re welcome Karen. Yes, so glad to have the cam back. It went down on the 9th August and that was the 15th before we got it back!
The birds aren’t spending so much time on the nest now since they are eating off nest.
16.00 Hello Olwen, not seen her for a while since she had her morning fish.
Olwen is 76 days old today so getting near to the youngest age of when juveniles begin their migration. She’s pretty hungry, calling for fish.
Just before 19.00 LM6 flies in with a live fish. She looks around and doesn’t see anyone so takes off again.
Shame, Olwen has been on and off the nest a few times the last few hours looking for a feed.
LM6 soon returns along with Gelert who takes the fish.
An Osprey is heard loudly calling in the distance and when she gets to the nest, it’s Olwen. Just too late for the fish.
LM6 flew off quickly to leave the youngsters to it.
Gelert made sure he had a good grip of the fish. Looks like a pike, a favoured catch.
He then took off with the fish, leaving Olwen on the nest.
Olwen watched as he landed on a sawn off tree trunk.
Olwen stays on the nest, looking, waiting and hoping for another fish to be delivered. What a bonny girl she is.
19.47 and who should arrive but LM6. What a superb parent she’s turned out to be. A fantastic provider and she arrives with an identical pike for her other chick.
Olwen is so happy, shrieking and calling to her mum. She goes to collect the fish straight away.
Olwen then takes off with her supper and flies high towards the trees.
She is so excited, she calls all the way and does a “flight around the block” flying past the nest again before she settles on her eating perch.
Wednesday, 17th August
Good morning everyone. Just logged onto the live stream at 07.00 and both chicks are there, Gelert with a fish. I’m off to work so will fill in with the details later.
