Things continued to go well at the beginning of June and on the 4th, we celebrated a record nine fish delivery day from Laddie. During the following week, the number of fish brought to the nest took a sudden decline and with this, we witnessed chick #3 befalling to sibling aggression - first from chick #1 and then chick #2. Very sadly, this then led to the dear Osplet being blocked from getting close to NC0 for feeding. Devastatingly, after a very early fish delivery on the morning of the 15th June, the middle chick subjected the youngest to a severe attack from which, in its weakened state, it could not get up from. The little one passed away on the nest a few hours later at the age of 23 days old.
Soar high and free, brave #3 - you will always be remembered...
Subsequent to the passing of the youngest chick, fish deliveries from Laddie began to increase with him even outdoing his previous record by bringing an amazing ten to the nest on a single day. NC0 made her first dive from the split birch (since the chicks had hatched) on the 24th June and brought her catch back to the nest, much to the surprise of the chicks! The youngsters have continued to grow at an amazing rate and, on the evening of the 27th June - at the ages of 39 and 37 days old respectively - they were ringed. Their genders could not be determined. A milestone for the chicks was observed on the evening of the 29th June when both self-fed and the following day, LR0 showed its strength of character to successfully claim two fish!Hopefully, LP8 and LR0 will continue to do well and that we will witness their successful fledges this month.

21:35 Laddie to an empty nest with a huge, headless fish. Both juvies had left a few minutes beforehand. LR0 was the only one to arrive to take it from him almost a couple of minutes later
He waited patiently in complete silence, looking in all directions
LR0 then, very noisily, landed on the nest at 21:37ish
LR0 took the fish
Laddie left the nest

LR0 flapped his wings with the fish in his talons to move to the front edge of the nest

It was so lovely to see Laddie for a much longer time than usual!
Hi LAM, you're very welcome! After all the extreme sadness with losing dear #3, it's been a pleasure to have watched LP8 and LR0 grow into very strong fledglings, supported wonderfully, of course, by Laddie and NC0. Yes, a lot of varied fish are brought onto the nest here :)
22:18 NC0 flapped down to the nest from the cam post where she had been calling. LR0 stopped eating for a few moments. (To note, LP8 has not been back to the nest)
He gave short warning chirps as she edged closer

22:37 LR0 moved away from the fish, NC0 had her opportunity to take it
She flew off with the remainder of the fish
22:47 Will LR0 spend the night on the perch?
Lol, time for my bed now, LAM!

Hi Glider.
I'm in two minds now about LP8's gender, sometimes 'it' looks so much larger in comparison to LR0, then other times not.

Haha Sandra, well I guess we’ll never know for sure until LP8 returns to breed!
Good morning Glider and all,
Yes, you're right there! lol
LR0 flew from the perch at 4:15ish this morning
NC0 arrived with the fish piece at 4:22
Just as Laddie did yesterday, she waited until a juvie showed itself. LP8 flew from behind the cam then arced round to land on the nest at 4:57
It wasn't until NC0 moved her left talons to reveal the fish that LP8 realised breakfish was available. It was quickly taken
LP8 took it to the back of the nest to eat
7:54 At present, LP8 is on the nest. There have been no fresh fish deliveries but both juvies have been on the nest fish calling
