Re V2's colouring

I sent some screenshots of him to David Hancock and Myles Lamont, and got this answer from Myles (who is also in British Columbia):

Judging by the tail colour, I would suggest these are just stained feathers. Depending on where the bird is foraging/bathing, the water bodies around parts of Florida I would imagine can be full of tannins and perhaps staining the feathers. We often have birds with discolored feathers up here too depending on what they get into. That would be my immediate guess. Nothing screams of melanism to me.

We went thru this last season, CIRRUS   I remember showing you a better shot of the Red-bellied but I don't think I showed a Red-headed  (which is one I don't remember seeing on-cam):

I have decided to discontinue monitoring this nest:

(1) I need to save storage space;

(2) Lady Hawk does very comprehensive videos for this nest (as well as some others but not NEFL), and now she's started adding "chapters" to make it eaier/quicker to navigate their rather lengthy length  

My swansong is yesterday's youngster in Harriet's attic for 25 minutes or so - apparently it was M15 incubating and mildly protesting:

I've skipped a couple of days thru either pressure of work or mental debility.

Still no Samson, and yesterday morning (Wednesday, 07 December) saw our first Gabby/V2 mating on cam.  He seems to have settled himself in and has been accepted.  As I responded to a YouTuber's disappointment, "It's her hormones' fault".

This covers the whole day, 9 minutes long :(((

V2 got hit by a Barred Owl yesterday morning - it was all a blur:

That was really quite sweet !  The pair  have quite a vocabulary and I expect that isn't' all of it . Thanks Scyllla

V2 didn't return yesterday to keep Gabby company.  She did a lovely fly-in at lunchtime:
