CAPTIVA OSPREYS - Andy & Lena

I'd been posting in "Forum Friends", here's a snap brought over, for the sake of starting this thread with something!

  • TWEED VALLEY BIRD UPDATE! Glen is still on the nest in Peebles, Tweed is travelling north in Portugal and is now virtually at the Spanish border. Kirk is still in the West of Ireland.

    02 Sept concluding

Lots more time on the nest and at one stage appeared to be eating but I couldn't find any sign of fish coming in - but the stream is skipping a lot... then later! Shark

Glen glitched off the nest with his fish @ 14:37.

That was in clip #2, there were 4 more before closing time, all ENS.

Yes, BART - not a Flounder, and I'll add: not a Perch, not a Mullet, and if it was a trout I don't know what sort, but I don't expect trouts to be so silvery Upside down - I'm about the same standard as you are Smile

It wasn't too long till a flounder did arrive, followed by juvie still clutching previous fish, so Dad took the new fish away, ate some, brought it back @ 14:13 - just as juvie had finished eating the previous.

Juvie flew with the headless flounder - couldn't get a better shot, wings were covering fish:

That was the last we saw of anyone for the day.

What a perky start to the day for the juvie (Dad not yet seen):

  • Tweed Valley

The cam zoomed from an empty nest to take in the high pole, where someone appeared to be eating - I had to wait will they unbended, so you can see it:

Not long after - a fish delivery, I think!

The stream dropped out shortly after, picked up again, empty nest till nest dropout @ 11:17.  Currently downloading.

    Juvie dropped in Wink

Spent 5 minutes on the perch, flew off:

The stream is dropping out a lot today - juvie glitched onto the nest with a fish, no delivery seen:

  • Tweed Valley

Just in case it turns out to be significant - Glen finished his fish on the high perch and flew off @ 13:01 - later, a Jay, who'd been on the nest, checked it out for leftovers:

The juvie had one more fish, last seen very early evening:

    Not very nice migration weather:

The final clip was 15:30-17:30, no birds seen.

Following on from scylla's report, Juvie appears at 06.25 this morning.

He hops on and off the nest until 07.31 when Dad arrives with a fish.

    Alyth 4 Sep 2022

A few minutes later, Juvie leaves the nest with his fish only to return at 07.52 minus the fish. No telling if he has dropped it or eaten it super quick!

His luck is in, Dad appears again with another fish.

    Alyth 4 Sep 2022

08.25 Juvie flies off with his fish.

  • It’s such a shame they can’t ring the birds at this Alyth nest. We’ll never know if we see this character back again or not. Depending if it’s1st or 2nd born, it’ll be 98 or 99 days old today. Maybe with all these shots we have of it, in future years we can match it to a nest! BlushFingers crossed
  • I agree Glider, it would be very helpful if we had rings to ID the chicks.
