----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From little 'fluff balls' to almost fully grown ospreys, LR1 and LR2 are doing amazingly well all thanks to the fantastic ongoing care from NC0 and Laddie (LM12). Not only have we seen Laddie providing fish for his family but NC0 has been successful several times just recently as well - what first-class parents they are! There continues to be the occasional intrusion from ospreys passing through, however, the nest and chicks have been protected outstandingly. We look forward to the next exciting phase in the young ospreys' development.

  • Good morning all,

Laddie delivered breakfish at 6:03. LR1 was able to grab the flapping fish before LR2

After tucking in to the fish for a number of minutes, she took it off nest

  • Thanks Patily. It appeared to be the same fish that Laddie delivered to the nest at 11:10 - it was an absolutely huge, headless one! (brown trout?)

    LR2 claimed it

After eating for around an hour and a half, LR2 walked away from the fish and left the nest at 12:42

LR1 seized her opportunity to eat from LR2's discarded fish

    As reported by Patily...

  • LR1 continued to eat the fish until she walked away from it at 13:35ish and flew from the nest

As soon as she was out of view, NC0 flapped down from above the cam and began tucking in to the remaining fish

She still had some remaining but left with it (13:53ish)

Just after 14:00, she returned (with fish piece in talons) and LR2 was quick to come to the nest where he relieved her of the fish

14:13ish He walked away from what was left, NC0 picked it up and then, with him food begging, she began to feed LR2

  • 16:25 NC0 mantled/chipped/alarm called on the nest - no intruder seen but I did hear the sound of a possible aircraft? which may have been coincidental

She shot off the nest and headed towards the birch then flew high above and beyond that

This cheeky chappie arrived a few minutes after she had left and spent quite a while looking for any morsel it could find

17:07 Chipping/alarm calling could still be heard

  • 17:22 Laddie to the nest

He chipped and mantled but no threat seen.

17:28 LR1 came to the nest (very vocal) and once she had landed, Laddie flew off

    17:30 LR2 loud vocals!) joined LR1

  • 20:04 LR1 (nest) and LR2 (perch) were waiting for the next fish delivery, which was brought in by Laddie. LR1 was able to grab the flapping fish before LR2

20:09 After making good progress eating the fish, she flew off nest with the remainder of it

She landed on the far left branch of the birch.

20:27 LR2 flew from the nest and headed over to the birch, landing on top of the branch to the right of LR1

Edit at 20:35 - Since writing, LR2 has arrived back on the nest. LR1 still on the birch

  • 20:42 LR1 left the birch and headed in the direction of the nest. She didn't land but flew low under the tree/Loch area below the nest and went out of view. NC0 was on her birch branch at the time but she flew down low and away beyond the birch seconds afterwards

LR2 is still food soliciting at time of posting

  • A small fish from Laddie was delivered at 21:02ish. LR2 was already shouting on the nest when he flew in, LR1 was hot on his heels but wasn't in as good a position as her brother to claim it

When he'd finished eating all of his supper (about 15 minutes after starting), he flew off and could be seen flying behind the nest, over the Loch, to the birch area

    LR2 flight, top right
