Beautiful female, Rutland's CJ7:
The hoped-for partner for CJ7, local male LS7, has not yet appeared. CJ has been tending the nest daily and yesterday she took everyone by surprise, producing an egg - which took us by surprise by surviving... until midnight at least ;)

Scylla, check out 1250 today, there is a Merlin on the nest, and a "Whitey" in the background.

I've just come upon it, RICHARD, and have the BTO site open trying to ID it. I'd dismissed Kestrel and Hobby and was about to do Merlin when I thought I'd check here, and whadooya know, here you are!
I can get on with my video now.

Here s/he is (I haven't finished studying them yet, so don't know if m/f). It's shortened a bit.
If anyone's interested, there's a lovely series of Merlin vids from a Norwegian cam set up by Osten Haug. Oops, there's something wrong with the links I've copied from his channel, I'll have to find them individually... hang on... s/be OK now.

In #2 he poked his finger at one of the eyases! I haven't watched them right thru yet but they're wonderful videos, IMHO.
A friend of mine, David Lynes, took this picture a couple of days ago, and has given me permission to share it.
He takes some very good wildlife shots around this part of Dorset, and I don't think I really need to say where this was taken.

I competely missed your photo, RICHARD, probably I was grabbed by your Merlin snap, given the circumstances at the time
Super photo, thank you, I've saved in my PH folder along with your kind friend David's - please thank him.
Even tho we can find Sika deer images a-plenty via Google, it's not the same as having our own local deer.
Absolutely right Scylla. Local deer heaps oh better
