Louis arrived on the 5th April and Aila a day later. They were quickly into the old routine of making the nest cosy, stickifying, catching and eating fish, and mating of course. Three eggs were laid ON THE SAME DATES as last year - 23rd, 26th and 29th April. Last year's eggs hatched on 1 and 4 June, although egg 2 failed during hatching and was removed from the nest on 7 June. Let's hope for a healthy trio this year, although we don't want a repeat of snow on 13 May.

    Good morning all. I’m sorry if this appears in the wrong place, but with not being a regular poster I still find the intricacies of posting, which I know will be so simple to you, a little confusing. I just wanted to thank all the contributors to the Loch Arkaig thread, & in particular to those who were here in 2017. I didn’t join the party until the first egg was laid & so missed all the early bonding, or not, between Louis & Aila. Even after this point I was still very much in the learning stage & was too amazed by it all to take much of it in. To be able to now have your comments, photos & videos for that season to refer to is invaluable. Thank you again for taking the time to do it Blush

    14.11, eventually Louis brings in a fish. It is well worth waiting for, being a large whole fish. Aila takes it in the approved manner. Ian

    Lovely to see you here Mary.  You will see that many of us love the LA nest, and the character that is Louis!  I came across a Woodland Trust post about Louis seeking a female and followed it from there.  It has been a real learning curve, for both Aila and Louis and me, to follow the development of a nest from the go.  Thanks too for your FB group!

    That is exactly how I found LA too Sheila, The Lonesome Louis days, it was heart breaking at first, he just sat there gazing for days on end. The Alia paid him a visit, and the fun started. A real joy to watch. Just realised, that was 2017 - time flies.
