OK I'll start this off. Czech Republic jays and a red squirrel.

I wondered that too when I saw it broken up - but it looked very heavy when the crow picked it up whole. I never did have any idea what it was, I just called it a seed-cake because it would be obvious what item I meant.
PS - And I never imagined they'd put such a large, low-nutrition item out for the birds.
IMAGICAT
The nice lady provider came at 8.03am. She replenished stocks, scratched the deer's ears, and gave a cheery wave to camera.
She looks a seed-cake kind-of-girl I'd say, taking her feeding duties too seriously for bread. But none of whatever it is put out this morning.

I think that both GARDENBIRDER and I were referring to the hunk taken away by the crow on the Boreal Ontario cam, Korky.
But thank you for super and interesting captures !!!

Oops, looks like that's something else I've got wrong
Now my earlier-morning porridge has caught up with me, zzzzzzzzzz.
Korky posted, "OK I'll just haud ma wheesht." Eh?! I am at confused.com as well, Korky--translation, please! Here is Scylla's video capture link (from the Boreal cam) to the Crow taking away the cake/bread on the 26th: www.youtube.com/watch , and then go back to page 93 on this thread (on my computer--no idea if it on the same page on any other device--sorry) and scroll part-way down that page to see Scylla's snap of the Gray Jay taking away a part of the cake/bread on the 30th. Both food items look to me to be too light-weight to be seed cake unless they are mostly dough of some sort, and the Gray Jay might have a bit of trouble carrying a piece that big if it was something weightier than bread. Having noted that, it is still possible the thing, whatever it is, contains lots of seeds which the birds might like. Yes, bread is low in nutrition and should not be fed to growing chicks or they may not develop properly, but a bit in the winter might possibly be considered ok if it is only offered very rarely (or not!), especially if it contains seeds the birds might love like sunflower hearts. Of course, anything with a higher fat content would be better in winter. What do you think?

I think I always welcome your delving, GARDENBIRDER I also think "they" should specify all food they offer and I'm sorry that there's no Chat and no Comments so we can't ask - I may have already quoted their info: "a rotating set of feeders that provide black oil sunflower seeds, nyjer seed, whole and shelled peanuts, and peanut butter suet in a homemade hanging log to the dozens of species that visit"... no mention of "cake"
Well it's all my fault that I got confused, even though you all knew what you were talking about. Perhaps I can blame Brexit? Or too much gin? On the bread-thingy, yes I agree, it's fine in small quantities and in the absence of anything else to eat. 'Haud ma wheesht' just means I'm going to shut up. I can't guarantee how long that may last of course. Happy 2021 to all things winged and non-winged.
