The 2 chicks were ringed on 4 July and assessed as female. They were given ring numbers JJ0 and JJ2, and later named by popular vote as Mallie and Rannoch. Both weighed 1.49kg on ringing but will weigh a lot more now after a further month's-worth of protein-packed-piscine-parenting. The WT subsequently said they thought Mallie may be male. S/he fledged on 20 July and Rannoch on 27 July.

17.24, at last Rannoch gets a fish. Louis brings in another excellent one & with Mallie presumably still working on her earlier fish Rannoch has no competition this time. Louis flies to the stick tree, the one straight ahead of the camera with all the sticky out branches. Ian

My very thought! :)
Louis had kindly started it off, making it easier for Rannoch to get straight to the meat. It was a little disappointing from our point of view, in that it was a total blur, incoming - this is the best view I can get.
It took a long time for her to really get going but now she's tucking in :) ... and we can all go to sleep without a care in our Arkaig world ;)
IMAGICAT
She did fly with the fish but not until she'd eaten a decent portion:
She came back and ate and ate and off she flew - she may have left some skin.
Moth on the Robin's perch:
It started raining @ 01:35 and got heavier thru the night, has now stopped.
That's up to 04:30.
Flyover:
Rannoch arrives:
Louis just brought another, smaller fish - no Mallie, and Rannoch can't handle two, she's just been mantling and shouting over her fish.
Since then Rannoch has started on the second fish - maybe it's tenderer ;)
Mallie shouting the odds as she pecks around on the nest and has found herself a piece of fish

I see that Mallie is about to dispatch a tailfin. She found 2-3 tailends.
G'night :)
14.46, Louis brings in a whole flat fish to an empty nest. Rannoch arrives shortly after. She doesn't make a grab for the fish, instead Louis places it on the nest & flies off. Rannoch then shows an interest in it but not eating yet. According to WT chat, it seems that in a reversal of yesterday, Rannoch has had all the fish today. It looks like Mallie was last on the nest at about 07.30, but may have been on the camera since. Ian
