You can still read all about the  Rutland  Translocation as it happened.   See    Rutland website from 1999 to 2006

Reading through the details about the fledglings, although it's a fact of the Ospreys life, it is sad that so many do not return..

Of the 75 juveniles released at Rutland only 13 were ever seen again.

Tiger, And how many of those 13 where known to have a nest and succeeded in fledging chicks--Mr Rutland (03(97)), Mr Glaslyn (11(98)) and who else, please?  If we see one returned bird next year from the 2017 batch, I will be over the moon!

    Kind regards,

    Ann

If you click on Tigers link it takes you to the website.

Click on the relocation tab at the top and it goes through all the Fledglings from each year and what became of them if known.

It lists the identified returning birds, where they nested, with who and the number of chicks raised.

Loads of reading for the Ospaholic

I do not think I can say it often enough. Barrie  Gilpin was the most wonderful editor of the of the first seven seasons of the Rutland site.

It's very clear to see that a lot of time and effort went into it.

  • In reply to Mike:

We had a briefing meeting last evening for volunteers, which was interesting and informative. Sounds like it's going to be quite an experience! As expected, all news and photos will be broadcast through the official channels and social media accounts, so I won't be posting much else here (except maybe the odd squeal of delight!).

  • In reply to Alison Copland:

I can promise you it will be an experience Alison! One you will never forget. Enjoy.

    Thanks, Mike! I will.
