Hi folks, It was a windy and damp day yesterday. Lots of vigorous exercising by Middle and Youngest. Thought at one time the middle one would take off, it was certainly doing so across the nest. I think 5 fish in all were delivered by both parents between them. All at rest now. Ahhhhhhhhnight, night, see you all in the morning.

As we watched for a very long time and Deshar made no attempt to fly back to the nest, we were commencing to wonder if he ever planned to return to the nest LOL He did return.
Both Nethy and Deshar fledged to a tree. The interesting thing is OVS , the father, came to sit near Nethy when she fledged as if to reassure her. And I think he came to sit near Deshar too. Someone else can clarify that . When the eldest here fledged he came back to the nest and the camera post. so no need for reassurance. If #2 went to a tree EJ or Odin may have come to sit near him to reassure him that flying was normal :)
EJ knows where he is and will make sure he is defended from intruders .

I think this is the first time I have seen a chick spend its first night of freedom away from the nest but I have seen chicks spend their second night away from the nest. Expect chick #2 to quickly reappear as soon as some fish arrives in the nest!

How often do they fledge this late in the day? It was 7:30 P.M.
The LG Osprey rewrite the rule books :)
EDIT Are we totally certain that the two chicks on the nest are not #' 2 & 3 ? I can't identify them in the dark it is hard enough during the daylight
Maybe #2 came back when no one was watching and it is #1 who is roosting elsewhere .

They do tend to fledge in the morning but fledging late in the evening is not unknown.
Here is the link to Deshar's fledge. See http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/blogs/lochgartenospreys/archive/2008/07/22/Deshar-fledges_2E00__2E00_.for-real-this-time_2100_.aspx

Thanks Tiger!! So Deshar was in the tree nearly an hour .
It was windy that day too. Maybe holding on to a branch in the wind makes them a little unsure if they want to let go of it to fly again .
Morning all, im happily doing the nightshift :-)
Chum #3 is just chilling out on the nest
#1 is in his normal tree, I would imagine
#2 is hanging out with dad on his tree, I would imagine
EJ is watching it all and will be organising all sorts including large fish
