Welcome to the new week. Hope all the UK types remembered to put their clocks back. We'll do it in another couple of weeks.
Before I go, just got time to put on some more pics from our hols:
Latest part of my saga. Still in the park, in Lisbon, Portugal.
After sitting on a bench and watching the birds for a bit, we wandered back to the Jeronimos Monastery. There was now a queue to see the church part of it, as the Service had ended. I noticed many nationalities in the queue, as they had all been dropped by buses similar to our trip.
View of the church tower, as we waited our turn, below. When we entered, there were many many people all shuffling along and trying to see everything: I was very disappointed in my photos as I don't know quite why, but a lot of them were very poor indeed. Maybe it was the light - it was bright streaming through the windows, which were not all stained glass, but very dark in the furthermost corners of the building.
These beautiful arches were above us, at the entrance. If you go on Google, it tells you that the Monastery and church were first begun in 1495 (!) and the present building was started in the 1500s and completed in 1601. So very ancient.
A tomb.
This only gives an impression, I'm afraid.
Rather blurry stained glass window: A lot of people were jostling past me, and on several occasions people walked right in front of others who were trying to take pictures!
There was a lot of gold leaf and many many statues and ornamentations.
Must go now, or I'll be late: back later with the rest of this set of pics (some of which are better!)
LINDY That Lab pup must have stolen Benson's Duck. He has one identical and loves it. Spectacular afternoon here. Long may it continue. I see the new version of "Murder on the Orient Express" is released tomorrow. Shame I can remember the outcome, though OH cannot.
I know the outcome, too Dibnlib: having seen all of the versions many times, but I never tire of it, its a chance for the actors to show off and usually has a stellar cast. Looking forward to seeing this one, maybe next week.
Been busy: saw the nurse, and was lectured in Healthy Eating after I got on the scales!! I assured her that I was not happy with the readout, either, and was going to do something about it. My weight fluctuates and has done over the years. Otherwise, a clean bill of health. I'm very lucky.
This afternoon, picked up our new/old car and my OH drove it home, but I have just been out for a spin in it and it's easy to drive. It's a lovely colour red so I have christened her "Ruby"......
Just got time to put on some more pics....
Still inside the church.
A tomb in the alcove, supported by carved elephants.
Tried to do a close up of the elephants.
A statue in an alcove.
The altar was beautiful, and had painted panels behind it:
I used the zoom on my camera as it was quite a distance from where we could stand. A better one of this view, next:
If you look to the left and right of the altar space, there are more tombs there, I don't know who they are as I didn't have a guide book with me. But I noticed that they had the same carved elephants under each one.
The one on the left of the previous picture. We had to stand behind ropes, so it looks as if there is no one there, but it was heaving with people.
Sorry, this is a poor depiction of a beautiful stained glass window. Not up to AQ's standard!
This came out better, though: notice the city of Lisbon is shown behind, plus the ships sailing on a blue sea. The Madonna's blue robe is a wonderful colour.
As we turned to exit, this is a high chamber above the entrance door with what looks like a chapel within.
Another colourful window - and its huge...
The tomb of Vasco Da Gama, the famous adventurer and explorer. There were many crowds clustered around this, and I took three pics but this is the best one -- if you Google his name and look for his tomb there are much better pictures than this on the internet. His casket is held up by crouching lions and was very impressive.
Another high up alcove had the figure of Death in it, very scary. But such a lot of carving and gold leaf!!
When we filed out, we joined huge crowds coming out of the Monastery buildings at the same time, and it was very busy. I looked up the Monastery on Google, (Jeronimos Monastery, Belem, Lisbon) and there are some pics on there which look as if it's very beautiful. But no time to queue up to see both - we had to get back to our bus and go off again on our journey.
Amazing pics LINDY, thank you.
Pleased you like Ruby, LINDA! Tiring trip to hospital. Going to rest this evening - between ointments, eyedrops etc!. OH made a lovely Risotto for dinner, topped with Salmon - then J informed us he doesn't like Risotto or Salmon so couldn't possibly eat both together!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Thank you,LINDY.
OG- Well, it was his loss. Was he always a fussy eater? Two of my sons in law don't like fish, lamb or pork and only really like chicken or beef. Youngest son in law is offshore just now. Two nights ago there was a choice of mussels, belly pork or duck. He chose the duck because otherwise he would have been very hungry!
Hope you're getting some rest, OG. I love risotto. But I hate mussels.
I'm trying to pack up some stuff as we decided to go off to Wales tomorrow for the last time this year - we will have a couple of restful days, then leave the caravan in mothballs, so to speak, till next spring. My OH is still suffering with his sciatica, and has an appointment with the chiropractor for next Wednesday.
Hope that my pics were interesting, even if somewhat lacking!! More to come, next week - but better, I hope.
