WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29 2017

Welcome to the new week. Hope all the UK types remembered to put their clocks back. We'll do it in another couple of weeks.

  • Heather --  Glad the bank muddle is sorted out.  Someone told me once that roses don't like to rock about in the wind, and we found that they certainly don't mind being cut down to only a few inches in winter.

Re the carpet - There are a few companies which sell a very large mat, especially designed to go underneath an office chair (does yours have castors?) to either cover up or prevent a worn patch appearing under a desk. Might be your best option rather than an entire new carpet. Look in office supplies etc.

We've been out, went to Bents  Garden  Centre in Lancashire especially to look for a table top sized Chr****s tree. They have a huge range and display, mind boggling. As I was with my OH rather than a female friend, I tried hard to only look at things we were especially interested in! Found what we wanted, and bought that plus one or two small gifts.  Had a big bowl of vegetable & lentil soup for lunch - it came with enormous chunks of crusty bread, yummy.

Now have the Christmas tree up, lit, as it has tiny lights on it and I needed to test it! Promise to put it away, soon --  it is a bit early, LOL!!

  • Heather. Following up on Lindybird's suggestion re the carpet protector you might like to have a look at  this site. You will see that there are different sizes, some for hard floors and others for carpet.  I have one to protect the laminate flooring I laid and it does a good job. I'm sure there are many sites advertising but at least this will give you an idea of what is out there.

Another option might be to source a suitable offcut and have it bound, most firms will do this. Just an idea.

Anything that saves a move of house!!

  • Thumbs up, Mike!!  That's the kind of thing I meant. I think most of them are transparent, but I think I saw some somewhere which were some kind of hard wearing cord material.

  • Good evening – both had a very busy day.  Two out of six walls (due to corners) completed in hall, and they won’t need a second coat; and OH has also done other things.  I wrapped Bday Present for the Wee One, and made more Christmas cards this afternoon.  J began some Christmas shopping in town – still doesn’t work Wednesdays.

Linda – sorry to read about John Lewis restaurant – was very good before.  Doesn’t sound as if Garden Centre was much help either!  Pleased you found your new smaller tree – I hope you will take it down again soon, before you get fed-up with it!

Heather – not allowed trimethoprim due to other meds (except when a duty doctor got it wrong!)  Can’t remember what I was taking, but wasn’t any good – now seven days on MacroBID.  Made myself an appointment for a check-up next Tuesday.  Pleased the banking matter was sorted – and their apologies too!  We have decided we shall have the carpets cut around the items of study furniture which are fitted (are trusting our local carpet shop, who have always been very good).  We have pieces of bound carpet under our rise-and-recline chairs in the lounge – carpet shop recommended a company in Carlisle which does very good bindings, and they are made of spare pieces of the carpet in there.

Dibnlib – I wonder who owns the ABxx FAB number plate?  Joanna Lumley has a Scottish home in Galloway, so maybe it’s Jennifer Saunders – we have seen her in various places further north!

Now time for a coffee, then OH will be allowed his shower – think he’ll have to paint tomorrow instead of cleaning as he is now behind (my) schedule!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Thanks,MIKE and LINDY! That is what I'll do. Definitely better than moving house :-) I'm trying to repeat my sis in law's mantra- 'there are no problems, only solutions'. I promise you, I have only been like this since my OH died. Seems silly, I know, but even the most capable of us can lose the plot somewhat. Anyway, onwards and upwards! Thanks again.

  • OG – I hope you can manage the last days of ABs and feel much better soon.

    .

Heather - the advisory service has provided yet again! What a wonderful thread this is for advice, support and just uplifting spirits.

    .

Ectended nanny duty yesterday as Dau wanted time before school pick-up to shop, a pre-C-mas toy sale. Dog (MissJ) and Cat (MissL) were not napping. Dog had a lead pinned to her t-shirt and both were also playing dressups. After some play with blocks, they took turns jumping on a wee indoor trampoline until MissL Decided to lie on it. MissJ fetched a pillow, soft toy & cover and “put her to bed”, kissing her and murmuring. Missl announced “I’m still not asleep”, so I sang songs, read books while she interrupted “I’m still not asleep”. Soon after Dau returned from school run, MissL had a meltdown and fell asleep at 4.15 pm. MissJ produced games & puzzles to entertain her G’an.

  • Good  Morning,  All.  Still dark here -- I've woken up, still on the "old clock", which also happened yesterday. It does give me a good start on the day, but on the other hand, I'm yawning and ready for bed by mid evening!

AQ - You had a fun day on Nanny Duty yesterday. I agree that this is a great community.

OG - Your OH is making great progress on the decorating.

Heather - Glad to be of some help.  Don't knock yourself, I'm sure I'd be all at sea without my OH, and dithering over all kinds of decisions, having made them jointly for so long. I think you're doing just great.

  • Today's pic:

    Cute overload!!!!

  • Lovely bright sunshine here – sorry for those with mist or fog!  Seasonably cold – really lovely so far.  Done early morning things and now going to have a quiet morning while OH paints, so I am okay for hospital this afternoon.  OH is about to paint a bit more – he is doing very well, since he is doing most other household tasks too.  Less appointments next week, so hopefully he can get the study done faster.

Heather – pleased this thread has come to the rescue again with suggestions.  I think you are still very capable and haven’t at all lost the plot – just having to think things through more because you no longer have the OH to help make decisions.

AQ – sounds as if the girls provided plenty of entertainment on your long shift!  I hope the shopping trip was helpful for your Daughter.

Linda – oooh! The eyes on that young lab!

Off to consider some menus and recipes – trying to think of new things to do with some of the basics!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG  -  I have two cardboard folders full of recipes cut out of newspapers and the like, ready to try!  One day!  Always in a rush, and cook many of the same old things, although we never eat the same thing within a fortnight or more.

It's a bit misty and very damp here.  I'm off to see the practice Nurse and get my M.O.T. done this morning. Hope all goes well with your hospital appointment this afternoon, OG.
