HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Welcome back, EJ! I hope Odin is on his way.

  • Heather: Oh, dear. I wouldn't have wanted to try to free that poor gull. Hope it was okay.

I had a big owl on my roof last night hooting away. It was sitting on the cap of the old chimney (no longer in use), and its hoots were reverberating down through the ducts, so it sounded like the bird was in the room with me. LOL

    Hello to everyone.

  • Good Morning, All.  Misty today! - after all our sunny starts, its changed now.

Heather - Poor gull, hope it was OK.

Diane - I would have loved that, to hear an owl so close. Hope the work is going well for you.

    Have a good day, everyone.

    Here is today's pic:

A gull got his wing caught somehow, in one of the joints of the guttering. Lots of mad flapping and eventually got free just when I was getting very worried.

Ouch.  I'm very glad it got itself free - I hope it's OK after this incident.

  • It flew off, LIMPY, and seemed fine. I watched how it was flying. Fingers crossed.

  • Already posted a message and don't know where it went. Anyway, off out the door early again. R&R tomorrow and then daughter heads home Thursday morning. Stay well all.

  • Had a nice lunch with Friend, with lots of talking as we caught up on all events. I had a tuna fish toastie, and she had a prawn sandwich. We took an hour and a half, including a cup of tea.....

Bought a birthday card and some small chocs as Easter presents, and fought my way through a large roadworks to get home again. This afternoon, sis- in-law popped in with a present for my OH, as it's his birthday tomorrow.

Annette - I hope you've enjoyed your time with your daughter.

  • Glad you had a nice time, LINDY.

Quiet day here, a bit rainy at times.

    Hello DIANE!

  • It rained here, in the afternoon, Heather. Luckily we'd decided to get the laundry off the line just before it started. I've washed the throw which Bonnie sits on, when she sits next to me in the evenings. She snores, and turns upside down during the bits of tv watching!

  • Suddenly it is cooler weather, low 20s, it’s wonderful. Sunday’s trip was strange as it started cool and a light sprinkle while we waited for bus. Later on Hindmarsh Island the sun was burning, though only 28 C. First we had a 10 minute ride on the Cockle Train, Goolwa to Middleton (it continues to Port Elliot & Victor Harbor & return). Alas a diesel engine as it is fire season. Our group rode in an old Centenary carriage, one with separate compartments for 4. See info on steel passenger carriage here.

    .

A short walk in Middleton, then bus returned us to Goolwa via Nelcoongal but named “Graham’s Castle” by the locals when built 1860s. Don’t expect to see a castle! I attended a weekend school here many many years ago, when it was a lone building on a sand dune near the beach. Now a private house in a cul-de-sac & surrounded by houses, so many houses.

    .

Morning tea/coffee in Goolwa (great bakery in side street), a ¾ hour walk to view buildings of interest, lunch break when one could eat, wander or laze. After lunch over the bridge to Hindmarsh Island, drove to a spot opposite River Murray Mouth. The mouth is dangerous; we could see the white line of breakers. Permanently dredged to keep channel open or else local eco-system messed. (Large number of locks and barrages have altered the natural river flow. In the olden days, at times, the river was not navigable due to low water.)

    .

Returning to mainland we drove to Clayton Bay where the local drinking spot had a Johnny Cash afternoon blaring. Here a narrow channel separates Hindmarsh island. Next to view a wee church at Point Sturt. Afternoon tea in Milang on Lake Alexandrina, find a video here, before returning via road passing Strathalbyn & Mt Barker and down Freeway to city.

    .

Now I’m off to replenish fridge & pantry for last time before goldfields trip. Back later with that info.

  • Talking of hospital food, friend's husband was in all last week and he said the food was disgusting.  Read an article in the DT last week that nurses, doctors etc get a far better diet than do the patients - makes you wonder.

    Thanks for the pics, Clare.
