  • Haven't heard of that for ages, OG. We don't have magpies this far north, sadly. Or so I believe...

It is a lovely day here, sun out and it isn't cold. I walked to town and saw the meal deal was on in M and S. Bought it, chose carefully and froze most of it as my son is coming up next week. Think I said that before! I've been raking through the big freezer which lives in the garage. I'm not as organised as OG so found things that I'd forgotten about. Sadly, some things will have to go. I must be more careful in future.

  • We don't have Magpies in Annan - but we don't know why!  We meet them just over the border on the way south to Carlisle, to the west (but less often), and northwards around Lockerbie and up the A74!  We don't have Jays either, but do have plenty of Crows and Jackdaws.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • We have lots of Magpies.  That must surely be lucky, Clare! Thanks for the poetry, OG - I've not heard it for ages, either, and I had forgotten the last two lines...

Been for the haircut and then looked at various paint colours. Went out for lunch as we had a 2 for 1 offer on lunches at a garden centre, so my OH had Beef curry and I opted for Chicken & Mushroom Pasta - yummy. When we returned, my OH went out to get the paint and is now painting the ceiling (white) in the hall prior to painting the walls a tasteful dark beige called Something Crumble or other....

I just rushed around putting my ornaments in a box, and my large collection of Royal Mugs on a tray, as a big shelf has had to come down. We put the pictures into the back bedroom yesterday.

  • I've just read that a company in London are recruiting cleaners at £45 per hour - if they'll clean with no clothes on!  Apparently they go to the homes of naturists.  I wish more stuff like this would make the news, it actually puts a smile on my face.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • As long as they drew the curtains while I was there...

  • I love all of the  crow family but my Lovely old cat used to hate Magpies - they used to dive bomb him when he walked up the garden path. The crows just used to shout at him. I was in the hairdressers today and the girls there were wishing January gone as they said it had dragged for them but it seems to have gone quickly to me. As I have 2 new Grandchildren arriving this year - one in April - my Son's first and one in May - my eldest Daughters second, I want it to go as quickly as possible.

  • Must tell my niece in the UK about those cleaning jobs!  Worst sea crossing I ever had was from Fishguard to Cork across the Irish channel. I was about 12 and chose to stand on deck at the front of the ship (in a sheltered area) and watch the bow plunge in and out of the heaving waves rather than stay down below where everyone was upchucking.  Of course that was long before stabilizers...

OG: Have never heard that rhyme.

Clare: Dentists are much nicer than in the old days (when they didn't give novocaine or whatever shots, the drills were oh-so-slow and you had to keep a stiff upper lip and not whine).

Thanks Lindybird/Clare for cute/interesting pix. Off to gym, then quick lunch (soup) with friend haven't seen for weeks, then home before the next storm arrives.

Am worried about Margo and Brenda. Wishing them well...

  • How exciting Harelady!  Two grandchildren in short succession - lovely :-)

  • Good evening, all.  What a lovely few hours I had at Felixstowe Ferry today - click on the beach huts to see a few photos:

I'm fairly sure that someone on here has a soft spot for beach huts!
