Happy New Week! We’re back – Son is ok. He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear. Not a nice experience.
Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera! More tomorrow. Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
TerryM, Dibnlib & others - My favourite detective authors are Elizabeth George, Peter Robinson & P D James. Oh heck, I keep adding to list. Now thanks to advice on this thread, I shall look for others. (Just checked local library catalogue & they have Lynda La Plante, Stieg Larsson & Henning Mankell.)
Quietwoman & others - I reckon too that those feral ducks have some Muscovy ancestry.
Diane - The first time we have seen them for months, your 2 Pacific black ducks were begging at our back door after breakfast this morning. Now they are foraging in the garden. They declined postbags citing postal regulations ;-)
Cathie - Xmas 2008 LG created an extra large feeder while they had a few days off. The clever squirrels chewed through the rope. I can imagine their glee as the contents spilled on the ground. See the official blog at
Annette - Sorry I missed your honeymoon query last night when speed-reading. One pair are going to New Zealand, the other to Vienna & romantic places in Europe. I heard recently of a small wedding comprising bride, groom, 2 sets of parents & celebrant. The interesting thing is that both parents were going on honeymoon too!!!!!!!!!! Both daus were quite indignant when I suggested I would like an overseas holiday . . . LOL

AQ: LOL LOL You tell those ducks that I've just made my Dad a banana-walnut cake with french vanilla icing. If they want to fly on up here, I'll give them some. I'll bet Annette would let them stay at her place overnight, if they need to rest on the way. :-)
Diane - "banana-walnut cake with french vanilla icing" I'm on my way. BTW Himself was not too pleased that your 2 friends left messages on our verandah. I said they were saying thank you by way of fertilizing garden!!!

I just love this, LOL!
Morning all! Yesterday morning I went to my mum's, she was discharged from hospital in Tuesday and she is doing OK now. She will have an occupational therapist once a week for a month or so who is helping her to gain the dexterity back to her left hand fingers. But I am really glad that all went well! After that I drove to Pohtiolampi to watch osps hunt and was so lucky to see 5-8 ospreys - can't really be sure of the amount, 'cause there might've been same individuals several times LOL and I'm so inexperienced with these magnificent birds. I also had a very informative chat with Finnish Osprey Foundation's representative, he told me that this year has been so far a very good year, they've ringed over one hundred chicks in this part of Finland and there have been many three chick nests and chicks have been very well fed
Re Stieg Larsson - I like that trilogy, especially the first and third book. And I could lend you guys those Henning Mankkel's Wallander books but I have them in Finnish (surprise-surprise) LOL
Have a nice Saturday all!

TerryM: If you like fantasy and crime, you might like the novel Floating Dragon by Peter Straub. It's a very odd mix of fantasy, horror, crime, genealogy, and culture shock. (When he wrote the novel, he had just moved back to America after living for many years in London and Dublin; I think he was disappointed with American culture.) The book is a little gory.
Oh, Auntie, I'm so very glad that your mom is recovering well. You must be so relieved. Wonderful that you got to watch the ospreys. 100+ chicks in your region is great news! I hope you enjoy the rest of your time off!
Hi D! I must chek that book 'cause like TerryM I am also a fan of fantasy and crime! Thanks for the tip :)
AQ: Oh, no, duck poo!!! I'm sure they meant well. I think it is good fertilizer. LOL
You're welcome, Auntie! It's a strange book, but it kept me interested. Nice to see you here this evening.
